The Madisonville police are tracking down a burglar who hit the Sunoco Gas Station on South Main. There are two photos on social media. A cash reward will go to the person with the information that leads to an arrest. Just contact Crime Stoppers of Hopkins County .
The United Way of the Coalfield is planning an event for those dealing with the long-term impacts of the December 2021 tornadoes. Kentucky Legal Aid will be offering free legal clinics in the tornado-impacted counties. This includes Hopkins. They will offer guidance on a number of legal issues at the Hopkins County Legal Clinic at 311 South Main. It will be from 10 until 3 tomorrow.
In Frankfort, the first bill approved by the General Assembly is a unanimous measure backed by co-ops. It’s described as a step in the right direction to make sure that Kentuckians can have affordable, reliable electricity. The Fuel Surcharge Stability Act is described as a consumer friendly tool to enable utilities to spread out over time, the cost of fuel spikes that happen during peak usage. Low temperatures last month reached the single digits for 12 days. That’s the longest such cold stretch in Kentucky in a decade.
In Frankfort, House Bill 44 focuses on robotics, and specifically creating the ” Advanced Manufacturing Through Robotics Education Act”. Here is Representative Chris Lewis of Lousiville.
It proposes a robotics competition fund, and a selection committee for awarding grants to teams.
The Madisonville Lions Club is out with their Man and Woman of the Year awards. Mark Metcalfe is the owner of Metcalfe Landscaping and Pleasantview Greenhouses. He was a finalist for Kentucky Farm Bureau Farmer of the Year and recognized locally as Farmer of the Year. Mark also organized the Scott Gaines Golf Tournament. Linda Thomas is a career nurse, educator, and community servant. She has held leadership roles at Madisonville Community College and Murray State University, and served on numerous boards including Baptist Health, and the YMCA. The Awards Dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 24th at 6 at Mahr Park.
A Madisonville woman is being charged with making a false report to the police involving an emergency situation. After the officers had rushed to the scene on Princeton Road, they discovered the intoxicated woman who had made up the story about people being killed. Alexis Massey was placed under arrest and taken to the detention center.
The police officer who witnessed a two-car collision on North Main is also the officer that arrested one of the drivers. Carson Lee had been attempting to parallel park. After Lee agreed to a sobriety test, it was found that he had been operating the vehicle under the influence. Lee was also charged with reckless driving.
This is a tough time of year for the water department in Madisonville. They say there’s nothing that can be done to stop water pipe leaks when we go from a cold snap to warmer temperatures. Here’s Deputy City Administrator Brad Long.
