The state Department of Education is naming Hopkins County Day Treatment as an Alternative Education Program of Distinction. Principal Nathan Howton says this means the school qualified as a model for high-quality alternative education for students that cannot be addressed in a traditional classroom setting. Howton says the students are given the specific support they need to overcome social, emotional, and academic challenges.
The Madisonville policw are reporting that a reckless driver struck a parked trailer on South Madison Street. The officer reported that Deborah Tapp exhibited the characterstics of an intoxicated person as she left her vehicle. Tapp faces two charges.
When someone says something about your hometown that is not exactly true, it’s only natural to offer a correction. That’s what Hopkins County State Senator Robby Mills did. He heard that on national TV, the governor said that Henderson is a former coal town.
The governor is pushing the Pre-K for All initiative. It’s a prominent issue before the lawmakers in Frankfort. Here is Representative Anne Gay Donworth of Lexington.
The initiative is designed to be voluntary. Participation is entirely up to the discretion of the parents or guardians.
Repairs will soon be made to a state highway in Muhlenberg County. It will take about a week to fix a cross drain on Kentucky 171 between U-S 62 and Bard Road. Traffic will be detoured to U.S. 62 on Kentucky 1473 and Kentucky 189.
Many in Earlington are mourning the passing of a former mayor. Harry Todd was 87 years old. At Earlington High School, he was Kentucky’s 1958 Mr. Basketball which opened the door to for him to play at Western Kentucky University. He served our country for 30 years in the Army, rising to Command Sergeant Major and earned the Legion of Merit twice. Todd was also a minister, community leader, and proud representative of western Kentucky.
The Hopkins County Fiscal Court is back in session today. It will include a Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association check presentation. The 10 AM meeting will be at the Government Center on North Main.
Enforcing the seat belt law keeps the cops busy. Christy Dukes was a passenger in a Cherolet Trailblazer when a cop did the traffic stop at Franklin and Branch. After the police canine sniffed
some synthetic marijuana, the officer located a homemade pipe. Dukes admitted that the illegal materials were hers. She faces three charges.
The Madisonville police say a distracted driver is responsible for causing a collision involving two other vehicles. One person was injured at noon on Friday in the 100 block of North Main when 19-year-old Billy Neal of Earlington hit the rear end of a Jaguar in his Chrysler 200 and pushed it into a Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the Jaguar suffered a minor injury. 31-year-old Kavya Remala of Valrico-Florida visited the E-R.
The Madisonville Miners’ schedule is out. The first home game is on Saturday, May 30th.
