The United Way of the Coalfield is planning an event for those dealing with the long-term impacts of the December 2021 tornadoes. Kentucky Legal Aid will be offering free legal clinics in the tornado-impacted counties. This includes Hopkins. They will offer guidance on a number of legal issues at the Hopkins County Legal Clinic at 311 South Main. It will be from 10 until 3 on Tuesday, the 24th.
The price of water is going up in Dixon. Dixon Waterworks customers will notice the increase in their next bill because they purchase their water from the Webster County Water District which is raising its rates. The next bill will include the change.
Muhlenberg County has a program for aspiring community leaders. Together, the Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce and the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation are leading the 8-month Muhlenberg Civic Leadership Institute. It’s mission is to focus on the community’s challenges and develope the leadership needed to meet the need. Each month, the class will focus on one subject area.
Our senior senator is out of the hospital. Instead of fully resuming his schedule following a bout with the flu, 83-year-old Mitch McConnell will stay at home and work remotely. He says he will not seek reelection, but intends to serve out the remainder of his term which ends next January.

Madisonville is losing a major store. Sureway on Thornberry Drive will shut down permanently next month after decades of service. The company is not listing a reason for change.
The Madisonville motorist who was driving in the middle of the road and who ignored a stop sign is facing six charges. When asked for his driver’s license during the traffic stop, all Hector Mejia could provide was a Guatemalan passport, and an international driver’s permit. Mejia later admitted that he purchased the fake document from an Owensboro man.

In Washington, the president is roling back what he calls regulatory overreach. President Trump says the Obama-Biden Administrations forced miners into early retirement, hurt rural communities, raised energy prices, and weakened our national security. The admininstration is now focused on preserving good-paying jobs and ensuring the availability of reliable, affordable energy. The president says he supports the Tennessee Valley Authority’s efforts to bring the coal industry back, because it has proven it can be productive.
