Public school has ended for 2025. The Christmas and New Year’s holidays extend through Friday, January 2nd. Classes resume on Monday, the 3rd. Also reopening on January 3rd is Madisonville Community College.

The Hopkins County organization that encourages citizens to embrace veterans and first responders is announcing that its Everyday Heroes Mini Grants Program has now presented more than 50-thousand dollars to first responder departments. Since the formation of the Patrick udd Project, the the organization has donated over half a million dollars to first responder, veteran, and military initiatives.
The state says lots of progress is being made on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing. In recent days, the work has involved the approach roadways and bridges in Evansville. Beams have been set, and the deck on the first new bridge is being poured. Officials say the work will be 60 percent complete by the end of the year.
Here’s some good news from Frankfort. The governor says there’s a 7 percent decrease in highway fatalities since this time last year. So what you’re doing to drive safely is working.
Kentucky Youth Advocates says obesity is a major problem in the 6 to 17 year old age bracket. They report that there has been a more than 270 percent increase in the number of obese children compared to the 1970s. Experts are saying that food insecurity is closely linked to poor nutrition. They say that too many parents are relying on cheap, ultraprocessed food that’s closely associated with obesity.
