The Madisonville Police Department is accepting applications for the popular 12-week Citizen Police Academy that begins on February 3rd. The program gives community members an inside look at law enforcement operations every Tuesday from 5:30 until 8 at the regional training complex. Applications are available from the M-P-D.
Imagine having your home in a movie! It could happen. The Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission is looking for filming locations. If you have a home or property that you think would be great for the big screen, take the first step and visit the Facebook page of the West Kentucky Film Commission.
The Delta Regional Authority and the state are bringing some new investments to the Pennyrile Region. The States’ Economic Development Assistance Program is intended to expand workforce training opportunities. This includes credentialing and apprenticeship programs. This investment will help connect workers to sustainable employment while strengthening the region’s talent pipeline and meeting employer demand.
In Webster County, the school calendar for the coming year is available on their website. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 12th. Fall break is the week of October 5th.
You have probably heard how that the holidays can be stressful and especially challenging for those impacted by mental illness. Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville says 64 percent of people with mental illness report that the holidays make their conditions worse. If you are living with a mental health condition, or know someone who is, a resource that is available 24-7 is the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Since day one of his administration, the mayor of Madisonville has been working to promote business growth. Kevin Cotton says his recent trip to New York City to meet with business executives was encouraging because they were already aware of Madisonville’s strengths and emphasis on growth.
A swerving car on South Main is what led to an arrest. Fowler Marks told the officer during the traffic stop that she had recently visited a bar in Earlington. She had bloodshot eyes and her Toyota Highlander smelled of alcohol.
In McLean County, Calhoun will be hosting an energy-efficiency seminar led by L-G-&-E and K-U. All surrounding county residents are welcome to attend. There will be a number of presentations on residential and business programs such as thermostat rebates, smart power strip savings, electric vehicle charging support, business incentives, and free energy audits. It will be on today at the Community and Senior Citizen Center at 875 Walnut Street.
The police are reporting that no one was hurt in a Central City residential fire. It’s not yet known what caused the blaze in the one-thousand block of West Reservoir Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
In western Hopkins County, the Western Kentucky Speedway is being revitalized. Much of the red clay at the now closed Clarksville Speedway is being transferred to the Happy Lane address. The new owners are Doyle Ware and A-J Newberry, along with Jon Watkins and the Ware family.
