A traffic stop for an improper lane change is what led to the discovery of a number of crimes. Vicente Velasco was arrested because his operator’s license was not valid. A passenger also had a forged identification card. A K-9 gave a positive alert, leading to the arrest of the passenger who was arrested and taken to the Hopkins County Jail. Both persons were in possession of a large amount of U-S currency.
A Madisonville official is back from New York after participating in a two-day national conference. Deputy City Administrator Brad Long served as a panelist at the International Council of Shopping Centers at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The event featured dealmaking, networking, and education for owners, developers, retailers, and investors.
The purpose of one of the newer programs in the city is multifacited. The Junior Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for high school juniors and seniors. They are exposed to local government, business, and community partnerships through monthly meetings, tours, and hands-on experiences. Deputy City Administrator Brad Long is quick to add one more advantage of the Junior Ambassador Program

Kentucky’s first medical cannabis dispensary is open. The Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam has products grown by the first licensed cultivator in the state to offer legalized medical cannabis. Saturday was their first day to sell Farmtucky products.
Two Madisonville toddlers are being tested for being exposed to fentanyl. In visiting a White Tail Court resident, probation and parole officers discovered that 26-year-old Cody Ellison tested positive for fentanyl. The 3 and 4 year old are hospitalized in Evansville for observation. Ellison is jailed on charges of Wanton Endangerment.
The new sheriff’s office should go into service next month. County Executive Jack Whitfield says the new site on Grapevine Road is going to shorten response times.
When the Hopkins County School Board meets this afternoon, they will get a report on the district’s Accountability and Assessment results. The meeting begins at 5:30 at 3-20 South Seminary.
One person is recovering from a traffic accident during the noon hour on Thursday. 47-year-old Shannon Knight of Henderson was transported to the E-R. The police say at the intersection of South Main and Sugg Street, Knight failed to yield the right of way and pulled in front of the Honda C-R-V being driven by 77-year-old Judy Fletcher of Madisonville .
The Family Resource Youth Services Centers in the Hopkins County Schools are reporting that they were able to provide assistance to 659 students. They say 15 students still need aid. In recent days, members of the Hopkins County Young Professionals wrapped gifts for students at Jesse Stuart Elementary. The school district reports that many people and organizations have reached out to provide assistance.
