Coach William G. Cox, 79, of Madisonville, KY., passed away Thursday December 4, 2025, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville. He was born November 9, 1946, in Madisonville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents David Franklin Cox and Wandalea Grayson Cox. He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Ann Cox, of Kingston Springs, TN. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Coach Cox was a teacher and an award-winning High school football coach for over 43 years. He had a very successful career as a coach, and he was very involved in mentoring young athletes. His faith in God remained a priority throughout his life. Those values were on display as the players he coached became champions of life. Coach Cox’s passion for football was highlighted when he was selected to be a talent and game day scout for the Oakland Raiders. His involvement with the Raiders was always something he enjoyed chatting about. Coach Cox was blessed with a large family. He is survived by four children and their families: William G. (Becky) Cox, Jr. of Kingsport, TN., Benjamin W. (Melissa) Cox, of Nashville, TN., Phillip L. (Stephanie) Davis, of Smyrna, TN., Mandy N. Bean, of Kingston Springs, TN. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Nick Cox, Luke Cox, Katie Cox, of Kingsport, TN., Graycie Bean, of Ashland City, TN., Jayce Davis, Caden Davis, Ryker Davis, of Smyrna, TN. He is also survived by one great grandchild of TN. Coach Cox has two surviving brothers, David L. Cox of Denton, TX and Paul M. Cox of Madisonville, KY. Of course, his family extends to all the men and women athletes he coached through the years. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Friday December 12, 2025 at Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Airs officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the Funeral home.
