One of the highlights of the Christmas season in Madisonville is tomorrow’s Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade. This is the 80th parade and the 26th consecutive one produced by the Kiwanis Club. The grand marshall is Clark Legate of Legate’s Furniture World. Over 100 entries will be included, and prizes will be awarded. The Kiwanis Club will have a stream of the event on their Facebook page. 106 point 9 WTTL will broadcast the event beginning after 5 o’clock. The parade begins at North Street and travels south on Main to McCoy Avenue. It’s said the best location is in front of the Historic Courthouse.
The new sheriff’s office may be opening next month. Sheriff Matt Sanderson had a few words about it during this week’s fiscal court meeting.
The new office is near the archery center on Grapevine Road.
That house fire last weekend in Clay is also is responsible for closing the post office. Fire fighters reported that strong winds made it difficult to fight. All mail operations have been moved to the Sturgis Post Office, including P.O. Box mail. The address is 409 North Main Street. Firefighters say damage to the 60-year-old post office is minimal.
A holiday tradition in Hopkins County is 60 years old. Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville says it was there in 1965 when the WTTL Toys for Tots Toy Drive began. and it’s still part of the program because it has a meaningful impact on the children in our community. This year, Baptist Health Deaconess employees raised over 300-dollars and donated over 200 toys.
There are more details about the suicide of an I-69 driver on Wednesday afternoon. The police were about to arrest him on reckless driving charges before he pulled over and shot himself. The police say no shots were fired at the officers, and no one was hurt. The Madisonville police say they were never able to communicate with him. They used a drone to view the crime scene. The driver’s name has not been released. The investigation is continuing. I-69 was shut down for about 45 minutes.
The Pennyrile Area Development District needs your input. The Pennyrile Health & Family Services Department is conducting a Needs Assessment to better understand older adults and individuals with disabilities. Their nine-county district includes Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties. Your feedback will help guide planning and support of their programs and services. It will take just a few minutes to complete, and everyone remains anonymous. The deadline is today. To take the survey, visit the Facebook page of PADD.
Not surprisingly, most house fires occur during cold weather. We all agree that space heaters are nice, but fire officials say if they are not used properly, they can be dangerous.
