A Madisonville man has learned the hard way that it’s smart to lock your vehicle. While walking to the Parkway Plaza Mall, he saw a man drive his truck out of the parking lot. In the center console was his loaded Taurus 357 revolver. A chase ensued but Aaron Wardrip got away. Fortunately, a mall business captured the theft on video. A woman also told the police that she spotted a suspicious man covered in mud on Park Avenue. In no time, the police caught up with Wardrip who they say matched the description from the video. Back at the mall, Wardrip explained that he tossed the gun under a car before he drove away. The officers located it and said that it had not been fired. Wardrip also said he had stolen two purses and left them on the train tracks near the hospital. The officers also located the purses. Wardrip was then transported to jail.
The man who would not respond to a policeman beating on his car window is charged with four crimes. Thomas Knight was found asleep late at night, slumped over the steering wheel in the parking of the Days Inn on Lantaff Boulevard. When the officer discovered that his door was unlocked, he opened it, and Knight would still not get up. The police report states that Knight had slurrred speech, glassy eyes, and had the smell of alcohol. Central Dispatch notified the cop that Knight’s driver’s license was suspended. It was found that this would be Knight’s second D-U-I offense.
