The next session of the Madisonville City Council will be this afternoon at 4:30 at City Hall. The agenda includes a discussion of the tourism advisory board’s report. The meeting will also include the appointment or re-appointment of ten persons to the tree, tourism advisory, or zoning adjustment boards.
In Hopkins County, a teacher and her assistant are credited with helping a choking child. The child was enjoying an afternoon snack with his classmates when he started to choke. Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Tooley recognized the problem, and began the Heimlich maneuver. Mrs. Tooley had C-P-R training. When the snack was dislodged, the child went on to enjoy the rest of his day.
The state says North Main Street in Madisonville will see a lot of milling and paving this week. The contractor says the highway maintenance project at the intersection of U-S 41, U-S 41-A and KY 2-81, otherwise known as Island Ford Road, will be completed, weather permitting, on Thursday, the 4th.
The Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors are about to hold their annual gathering that brings together local officials, community partners, and regional stakeholders. Their Christmas Luncheon includes updates from legislators. The event will be on in Dawson Springs on Monday, December 8th at 11:30 at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park.
This week, the State Police are taking part in a national safety initiative called Operation Care. Care stands for Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort. They are saying three things. Plan ahead if you are drinking, wear your seat belt , and report any unsafe drivers.
National Weather Service says the cold weather is beginning to set in for the season. Daily temperatures will be about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.
A Hopkins County child is recovering from a collision with deer early on Thanksgiving morning. The incident occurred in Christian County. Sheriff’s deputies say the accident occured on Interstate I -69 around 5:15 when a truck operated by Taylor Firestone collided with the deer near mile-marker 14. The child was treated at Jennie Stuart Health.
Fire investigators are hoping to discover the cause of residential blaze in Clay on East Elm Street around 4 AM yesterday. Firefighters from 6 departments were contacted. No one was home. The nearby post office suffered minor damage.
The organization that encourages appropriate ceremonies and activities relating to the M-L-K holiday has a virtual meeting this morning. Last year in our state, there were more than 34-hundred deer collisions. This is the height of the mating season which is not in favor of the driver. Matt Lytle of the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office reminds us of the danger once again. (Clip in audio below)
