The Sheriff of Hopkins County believes it’s time to step down. Matt Sanderson has held the post for a decade. He has more than 27 years in law enforcement. Sanderson will step down next year . He is quoted as saying being the sheriff has been the honor of a lifetime. Sanderson believes his chief deputy, Charlie Young, would make a fine replacement.
The Madisonville City Council will have a special meeting. The short agenda includes the ordinance amending this year’s city budget. The meeting will be this morning at 11 at city hall.
The state police are now involved in a child abuse case in Greenville. Post 2 is reporting that a 7-month-old is being treated for serious physical injuries. Facing charges is 23-year-old Tristan Bolton. Bolton is now in the detention center as the investigation continues.
Hopkins County will have the unveiling the the Civil War Union Statute this afternoon. The ceremony will begin at 1 at the Historic Courthouse.
In Madisonville and Hopkins County, the Economic Development Corporation recognizes that the Commonwealth’s industrial ecosystem remains focused on growth and opportunity. That’s why the E-D-C attended the Industry Conference in Lexington. The E-D-C says the event was produced by the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers and Kentucky Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
In Muhlenberg County, a section of Kentucky 1379 will take about three weeks to repair. The work begins on Monday. The project includes the replacement of a culvert. Kentucky 1379 will be closed from Kentucky 2590 to the Nelson Creek Community Center.
The National Weather Service says it will be colder next week with morning lows in the low to mid 20s on Monday and Tuesday.
In Madisonville, the annual Veterans Memorial Ceremony will be on Sunday at 1. The Veterans Memorial is 4-45 North Main Street. The ceremony will be streamed on the Facebook page of the City of Madisonville. If the weather is a problem, the ceremony will be in the Hopkins County Fiscal Court Room at 56 North Main.
In Kentucky, more than half a million residents are waiting for federal food assistance due to the lengthy government shutdown. The governor is sending the National Guard to staff food banks. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture says food stamp enrollees will be receiving somewhat larger partial benefits this month. The agency is issuing only partial benefits to comply with a court order requiring it to tap into SNAP’s contingency fund.
Like many, the governor is excited about the bridge project at Henderson. He said a few words at the ceremony connecting the new U-S 41 and U-S 60 interchanges. (Clip in audio below) The new roadway opens on Monday.
