Hopkins County is stepping up to fund repairs to Hanson’s water problem. A defective valve needs to be replaced. With Judge Jack Whitfield on his honeymoon, the court took action to hopefully prevent the city finding itself without water. (Clip in audio below) The complete repair cost is thought to be around 47-thousand. They say if the valve quits, the city would be without water. Repairs can be done in about 24 hours.
The traffic death of a 19-year-old Central City resident ten days ago is being investigated by the state police. Nicholas Brown lost his life in Greenville in a single-vehicle crash near the 8- mile-marker on US-62. Brown was ejected from the vehicle.
In Frankfort, the state attorney general says the proposed settlement with LG&E-KU will keep their gas and electric rate increase to less than 10-dollars. Russell Coleman says many utilities around the country are seeking double-digit increases. This summer, the state is working to construct two natural gas combined cycle units that will extend the lifespan of two coal plants by allowing them to continue delivering low-cost energy.
Dawson Springs is having a tree giveaway on Friday. It’s for those who lost trees to the tornadoes, especially those in Hopkins and Caldwell counties. The event will be on Friday, the 24th from 9 until 11-30 at the Dawson Springs Farmers Market at 1-01 East Arcadia Drive. They say supplies are limited.
A fight a few nights ago is what resulted in the arrest of a woman. The police say Hannah Kelly and her boyfriend were disturbing the residents of the Doe Run Apartments. The police concluded that she was intoxicated. The injuries to her boyfriend were obvious to the police. Kelly was charged with assault, and with disorderly conduct.
Law enforcement is looking for an escaped inmate. Timothy Oliver is from the Reed area. He escaped from the Henderson County Jail. His job was to repair bicycles for the Salvation Army. They say Oliver got on one of the bikes and rode away. He’s white, 6-1, 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Timothy Oliver was wearing a tan or orange outfit.
Business owners interested in connecting with others and sharing ideas are invited to the next Small Business Roundtable. It will be in Madisonville at city hall on Friday, the 24th at 9. A light breakfast will be served.
The state will be helping a number of McLean County residents re-locate out of flood prone areas. Earlier this year, the county was hit by a record-setting flood. Judge Executive Curtis Dame is quoted in the media as saying these buyouts will help some residents get a fair price for their property and help them relocate to safer areas.
October is the month of the pumpkin. Besides being a fall and Halloweeen decoration, roasted pumpkin seeds are a healthy snack. Fresh or canned pumpkin is used in a number of recipes, from baked goods to yogurt parfaits. Is it too early to shop for a pumpkin? Megan Fields of Eckert’s Orchard in Versailles thinks not.
