A Madisonville man found guilty of being in possession of synthetic drugs on two occasions now has a third one to deal with. The police spotted Barry Barnes just after 1 AM yesterday (on Monday) in the 800 block of South Main. The officer judged him to be under the influence. Barnes admitted that he had been smoking the synthetic drug.
The man who was found asleep in his truck in the South Main State Farm Insurance parking lot is facing a number of charges. The police report states that Christopher Devine appeared to be under the influence of a drug. He took and failed the field sobriety test. Devine told the officers that he ingested meth the night before his arrest.
The arguments to to keep or drop daylight saving time are as regular as clockwork. Here in Kentucky, attorney Steven Doan serves in the House of Representatives from the 69th district. (Clip in audio below) One study claims that abandoning daylight saving time could prevent over 300-thousand stroke cases a year.
The National Weather Service wants to remind many cell phones owners that they have the capability to receive certain alerts automatically, such as tornado warnings. These are called wireless emergency alerts and there are no apps to download to receive these messages. They are sent by authorized government agencies. You can adjust your alert settings for different types of public safety messages.
This month’s full moon will appear larger than usual. The first “supermoon” of the year will soon be visible. National Geographic says harvest moons, or supermoons, not only appear larger, but brighter.
The Madisonville man who crashed his vehicle on Saturday in Owensboro after refusing to do a traffic stop is facing 10 charges. The pursuit of 54-year-old James Porche ended when he crashed into a pole. He was in possession of approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. One of Porche’s charges is operating a vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.
The report to the police of a stranger in the attic of the caller is what brought the M-P-D to the North Seminary residence. The officers quickly learned that Kevin Scott was alone in the house and appeared to be high on drugs. In resisting arrest, he kicked two officers. During a vehicle search, the officers located a pill bottle and suspected meth. Scott faces five charges.
The Madisonville Lions Club is reporting an interesting number. They say their Lions Club Kid-Sight Update has screened just over a thousand students this fall. 155 were referred for further evaluation. There will be free, county-wide eye screenings for Hopkins County students from pre-K through the 8th grade on Saturday, November 22nd from 8 until noon at the Madisonville Lions Club building at 5-05 Hospital Drive.
You could say that Madisonville has a new civic club. Leadership Hopkins County is inviting graduates of the program to stay connected and engaged by joining their new Alumni Association. They say this is a chance to reconnect with peers, participate in professional and social events, and help foster the next generation of community leaders.
One of the world’s oldest ensembles will be in Madisonville. The Vienna Boys Choir has done around 29-thousand concerts. The date is the 28th at 7 at the Glema.
