Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton is saying on his Facebook page that he wants to run for a third term. He says the opportunity to serve has been the greatest honor of his life, and he believes Madisonville’s best days are ahead.
The Madisonville City Council meeting for Monday the 6th is cancelled. The next meeting will be on Monday, the 20th, at 4:30.
The funeral of a World War Two soldier fom Sebree who has just been identified is tomorrow. Staff Sergeant J-Z Shelton lost his life in Germany 81 years ago. Shelton earned several honors that include a Purple Heart. The full military service will be held on tomorrow (Saturday) at the Tomblinson Funeral Home in Sebree at 57 Kentucky 370.
Madisonville is hosting the Kentucky State Disc Golf Championship this weekend. The last report indicated that 84 players from five states had signed up. It’s taking place at Mahr Park Arboretum and City Park.
The next legislative session is likely to increase the penalties for child abuse. Compared to other states, Kentucky always ranks high in abuse and neglect. Here is Terry Brooks is with Kentucky Youth Advocates. (Clip in audio below)
In Anton, the Madisonville Regional Airport is preparing for The Wings Over Western Kentucky Air Show. Gates will open tomorrow at 2. Showtime is at 5 and 7. At 8, there will be fireworks. There’s no charge. The website is wings-over-western-kentucky-
A Hopkins County man is charged with several crimes in Dawson Springs, including assault and wanton endangerment. Deputies were called to a dispute on Racetrack Road this week. They say 53-year-old Ray Shearon was well armed when he assaulted several victims. Shearon was armed with a rifle, when deputies took him into custody.
A broken windshield is what led to a traffic stop in Madisonville. The officer soon learned that there was a warrant for Elizabeth Littell’s arrest. The officer also learned that she was using a suspended license, and could not prove she had auto insurance. Littell was transported to the county jail.
It was reckless turns that led to a traffic stop the other day in Madisonville. Cameron Townsend faces six charges, including disregarding a traffic light,and with driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He also was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The police are teaming up with Champions for a Drug Free Muhlenberg County for tomorrow’s Prescripion Take Back Day. They say it this would be a good time to dispose of any unneeded or expired prescription medications. It’s from 9 until 1 at First Southern National Bank at 4-01 North Main.
The annual air show at the Madisonville airport promises to be something special. Performances will be at 5 and at 7. Fireworks will follow at 8. The lineup features world-class aerial performers, skydivers, jet-powered ground acts, and a Kid Zone. Admission is free. The website has all of the details.
