A long awaited event in Madisonville is almost here. The ribbon cutting of the Hopkins County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Building is this morning at 11:30. It’s located at the entrance of Mahr Park on Nebo Road.
The state senator representing Hopkins County is the recipient an award. Robby Mills has received the Friend of Kentucky Cities’ award for his work in the legislative session. Mills sponsored the initiative intended to enhance health benefits for retirees of the County Employees Retirement System.
In Madisonville, the Regional Senior Citizens Center encourages seniors to come by and see what they offer. Here’s spokesperson Wendy Simms. (Clip in audio below) The center is located at 200 North Main.
Every five years, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet goes into planning mode. Residents are asked to take the Rural Consultation Survey by October 1st. You can access it by visting the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Facebook and using the QR code, or click on the provided link.
Law enforcement in Louisville says two fired rounds by a gun owner could clear his name of any wrongdoing. If the gun is stolen, owners can turn in their shell casing to the police to help locate the firearm. The shells are stored in an envelope marked with the gun’s make, model and serial number. If that gun is lost or stolen, its owner can take that envelope to the police to help locate the the gun.
A motion picture filmed in Madisonville will be screened tomorrow evening in Madisonville. It’s entitled A Christmas Pitch. The West Kentucky Film Commission says the show will begin at 7 at the Golden Ticket Cinemas on Madison Square Drive.
The state police have the details about the deadly Wednesday night crash on I-69 near Dawson Springs. The 11:30 collision was between a semi and a car. The car was being driven by Julia Jones, of Blue Mountain-Arkansas. She was 64. The driver of the semi was not injured.
You should know that when it comes to adult education services, Madisonville Community College is the state’s leader. The program is playing a leading role in helping learners across Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties take meaningful steps toward. Since the G-E-D testing fee was waived five years ago, over 15-thousand certificants have been issued statewide. Kentucky’s pass rate is 5 percent higher than the national average.
After two years of planning, two major construction projects are about to get underway in Dawson Springs . Mayor Jenny Sewell says they are the city park pool and the bathhouse. She describes this construction as the most intricate project in the history of the city. Sewell says the state stepped up with needed funds at a critical time. She says the city park project is a separate project, and will begin next month. Sewell says both projects should be completed by the fall of next year.
In Muhlenberg County, the public schools are about to impliment a strategic plan. It has just been finalized by educators, administrators, students, community members, and parents. It will be shared in the coming months.
