The National Weather Service is calling for a week peppered with rounds of showers and storms. Included may be some lightning and gusty winds.
A Commonwealth attorney says the full weight of the state’s justice system is coming down the Webster County man who plead guilty to rape, assault, and criminal abuse of a child. 26-year-old Mykill Pucket will not get probation. He will receive a 10-year Interpersonal Protective Order (IPO) to keep him away from the victim. Pucket will also have five more years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Tax time in Hopkins County is almost here. The sheriff’s office will begin collecting the 2025 Real Estate and Tangible property taxes on November 1st. The tax bills will be placed in the mail on the 29th. They will be white postcards with a yellow stripe. Tax bills paid in November will receive a discount. This year, the homestead, and or disability exemption amount, has increased to 49-thousand,100-dollars. Beginning November 1st, taxpayers will be able to search and pay on line. The website address is hopkins county sheriff dot com. And you should know that the sheriff’s office has not yet moved. It’s still at 56 North Main.
Webster County High School will soon have new tennis courts. The Board of Education has been selected to receive 88-hundred dollars in United States Tennis Association Tennis Venue Services Funding for the resurfacing of three courts. A goal of the grant is to provide communities access to safe, appealing, and functional tennis environments. The U-S-T-A says the essence of the initiative to promote a lifelong healthy activity.
In Kentucky, the A-C-T is out. The S-A-T is in. That’s the word from the Kentucky Department of Education.
Madisonville’s first movie premier is just ahead. The film entitled A Christmas Pitch was shot last December. The producer is Jubilee Gonzolaz. (Clip in audio below) The screening will be on Saturday, the 27th at 7 at the Golden Ticket Cinemas Capitol 8 in the Parkway Plaza Mall.
When it comes to free vision screenings, it’s hard to top the Madisonville Lions Club. They have already visited five Hopkins County schools. They want to remind parents to check their student’s ParentSquare forms so they can be signed up for their school’s vision screening. On Saturday, November 22nd, the Lions will be hosting a community eye screening event for children, ages 3 to17.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is linking a single-vehicle traffic collision early Saturday morning in Sebree to alcohol. Jose Mendez is charged with 6 crimes on State Route 56 East. This includes Mendez being in possession of a Social Security card that was not his own, and a fraudulent California identification card.
The University of Kentucky appears to be on its way to becoming the state’s first school to offer an Artificial Intelligence major. An assistant professor believes doors will be opened to its graduates like never before. It still has to be approved by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
