The National Weather Service says there will be a slight cool down this weekend and into next week along with some chances of rain.
The Madisonville Police Department is announcing the promotion of two officers. Lieutenant Joey Keelin and Sargeant Austin Young are now assigned to the Patrol Division. Keelin is a 10-year M-P-D veteran. He joined the Emergency Response Team and became its Commander in 2022. Young serves on the Fraternal Order of Police and CrimeStoppers boards and has received numerous commendations.
In Webster County, now there’s a way not to miss the school bus. The second-chance express for middle and high school students will make an additional run from 8 until 10 o-clock for school arrival by 11. Pickup times and stops will be shared with a ParentSquare message or a phone call. Full details about the second-chance express are on social media.
The safety of worshippers at church is now a concern in many locations. Regional Security Advisor Stuart Lowry says incidents have been on the rise over the last several years. (Clip in audio below) The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security says churches need to have members trained to know what to do if events turn bad.
This is from the state. Hunters could be rewarded with special opportunities to hunt elk or harvest a bonus deer, black bear and wild turkey. From now through May 30th, entries are being sold for a limited number of special agency fundraising permit packages. Winners will be selected in a random electronic drawing. A Madisonville man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. Dennis Stone Jr. pleaded guilty to the shooting death of 30-year-old Nichole Merrell at the Earlington Ideal Market five years ago. Stone also wounded Merrill’s toddler who survived the attack. The child was Stone’s and Merrell’s child. Stone was arrested in Nashville. Credited with investigating the case are the M-P-D and the sheriff’s office.
What do you do when your carbon monoxide detector activates? Get everyone outside to fresh air immediately and call 9-1-1 from a safe location. That’s what happened to the homeowner at 625 Westside Avenue. Later, the homeowner questioned if the detector was working correctly. The M-F-D stopped in and found that the detector was faulty, and suggested that it be replaced.
The Madisonville man who went to sleep at a pizza restaurant is facing two charges. Papa Johns Pizza on Madison Square Drive phoned the police about Michael Stanley. The police officer described Stanley as being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was notified never to return to the property.
In Madisonville, and lots of other cities, police dogs are stepping up to the plate. Major Justin Jones say the M-P-D has four canines to assist the officers. (Clip in audio below) The canines are on 24-hour duty.
This is the time of year when Central City flushes its water lines. As the result of a faulty air release, residents may experience air in their lines or slight discoloration.
