In our public schools, High Attendance Day is tomorow. It’s an annual event intended to promote a positive environment for regular school attendance. It’s also a vital reminder that every student attending school every day is crucial for academic success.
First responders say traffic crashes involving overturned school busses involve a number of special techniques. That’s why over 100 transportation employees of the Muhlenberg County Public Schools recently spent the morning recently at the Ag Center training on how to respond to bus emergencies. Included were the procedures in responding to rear-end collisions, and collisions with a special needs bus.
One of the most controversial people in Washington D-C is the Secretary of Health and Human Services. In recent days, Robert Kennedy Junior has beat back a barrage of blistering attacks from Senate Democrats. They’re accusing him of eviscerating vaccine policies. Kennedy is accusing them of “talking gibberish,” lying and being “showboats. Mr. Kennedy has reduced funding for research and development of some vaccines amid questions about their efficacy and safety. In Frankfort, Governor Beshear made it clear how he feels about America’s top health official. (Clip in audio below)
The Madisonville All Sports Hall of Fame has a new member. Barry Quinn was an eight-time varsity letterwinner at Madisonville North. In college at Ohio University and Western Kentucky University, Quinn was a three-year letter winner and a member of five conference championship teams. The induction ceremony will be Friday evening (09-12).
Kentucky is one of the most competitive film production markets in the country. Hopkins County Tourism Director Trish Noel says that’s because the county and the state have much to offer. The goal of the West Kentucky Film Commission is to attract the film industry to our area. In November, some film commission members will travel to Los Angeles for the American Film Market trade show. In the last two years, four films have been shot in Madisonville.
Madisonville’s deputy city administrator has successfully completed a program that empowers business leaders, aspiring public officials, and civic-minded individuals to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Brad Long says the Fellowship for Civic Leadership was an invaluable experience that gave him a clearer understanding of what it takes to serve effectively, whether in elected office or through community leadership.
In Hopkins County, student attendance at school sporting events is up now that they can attend their school’s games for free. The director of athletics is Matt Bell. He says there is one condition that needs to be met (Clip in audio below)
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says two paving projects are underway in Hopkins County. Work will be done on a 2-mile section of KY 109 from the Christian County line to U.S. 62 in Dawson Springs, and a 4-mile stretch from Clear Creek to the Webster County line at Providence. Other work this week includes paving for KY 1246 between KY 109 and the 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs.
