When an emergency protection order says a person is to come no closer than 100 feet, that’s what it means. Paris Phipps was arrested at a residence on Whit Lane. The complainant phoned the police to report that Phipps was on her property.
According to the Associated Press, an airman has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of Greenville native Brayden Lovan. Lovan died after an on-duty incident with a service pistol at an Air Force base in Wyoming. Press reports indicate the unidentified airman was arrested on suspicion of making a false official statement, obstruction of justice and involuntary manslaughter.
Here’s a topic no one’s talking about…except the mayor. Kevin Cotton says the rehabilitation of the sewer system is coming along very well. (Clip in audio below) Cotton says an efficient sewer system is mandatory to support growth.
The Hopkins County YMCA is proud of its new swimming pool. The 2-million dollar renovation includes two pools at the Badgett Family Aquatics Center. There’s more seating, improved accessibility, and programming for both recreational and competitive swimming.
In Henderson, the southbound Ohio River bridge needs maintenance. Work to fix it is supposed to begin today. The state says a steel fracture was discovered in an I-40 interstate bridge using the same kind of steel as the southbound bridge. Engineers are working to develop a work schedule and traffic control plan.
In Dawson Springs, the school district says appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the elementary student who was found to be in possession of a toy gun on Friday. Reports indicate the student has a younger sibling who placed the Airsoft gun in a bag. Another student saw the toy and reported it.
The M-P-D is providing details about a poorly driven vehicle on I-69 that resulted in an arrest. During the traffic stop, Jeffrey Carneal could not follow simple instructions. Carneal faces three charges, including operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.
The mayor of Earlington is working to make his town more attractive to renters and home buyers. Albert Jackson says step one is cleaning up the old properties. He says the city also needs to look into multi-unit housing. (Clip in audio below)
About a dozen state and local law enforcement officers in Western Kentucky are being trained by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to collaborate more effectively in bringing criminals to justice. This includes gun crime trends, federal firearm offenses, and gun crime investigations and strategies. The objective is to deploy the same federal resources to these agencies that are used at the federal level.
The Kentucky State Police is accepting trooper applications with increased starting salaries and benefits. They say salaries will begin at 69-thousand, 500-dollars. Selected candidates will receive guaranteed assignments at their home post locations.
