There are some new traffic patterns in Madisonville near the new shopping center to accommodate an increase in vehicles. Since businesses are still being built on both sides of Whittington Drive, authorities are anticipating even more cars. Since not all of the stores are open, the traffic problem will increase. The city says a new road will help lighten the traffic volume, but until that day comes, the police say drivers need to exercise patience.
The officer who did a traffic stop on a speeding driver had to turn his squad car around to catch up with him. As the officer was speaking with Joshua McCutcheon, there was a strong smell of alcoholic beverages. He admitted that he had had pint and a half of whiskey that day. Saying that he knew he was drunk, McCutcheon refused the sobriety test, He faces four charges, including failure to produce an insurance card.
A new Madisonville ordinance requires property owners to maintain what they own. It was a unanimous vote. The ordinance will be enforced by the Code Enforcement Board.
This is good news. The Webster County School District is on the List of America’s Healthiest Schools. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is recognizing 11-hundred schools. 134 are in Kentucky.
Madisonville’s newest event is military related. Mayor Kevin Cotton says Madisonville Salutes will be all things military at City Park. He also says… (Clip in audio below) It will be on Saturday, September 13th at City Park.
Madisonville will be hosting a prominent American tribute next month. The Traveling Vietnam Wall and Cost of Freedom Tribute will be set up at City Park from September 11th to the 15th from 10 until 9 each day. The 80 percent replica is 360 feet long. The Earlington couple charged with manslaughter in the death of a 10-month-old baby will have a court hearing on August 29th. The child’s mother is Samantha Stagner. Her boyfriend is Dayton Mason. They were arrested by the state police last week after an autopsy determined foul play caused the child’s death. Stagner and Mason are jailed in Hopkins County on a one million dollar cash bond each.
The fiscal court is giving the Hopkins County Jail the green light to purchase a new fire alarm system. Here’s Jailer Mike Lewis. (Clip in audio below) Lewis says money has been budgeted and that a bid of 96-thousand has been received to install a new system.
There’s a new high school competition in our state. At the state fair, Madisonville North was declared to have the state’s best garden salsa. Each student is a member of the Future Farmers of America. They produced many of the ingredients including honey from their school hives and corn they grew in partnership with Hopkins Central.
