The mayor of Madisonville is in class this week. Kevin Cotton is in Louisville to attend the governor’s Conference of Local Government. He says a number of topics will be addressed.
The Pennyrile Area Development District is reporting that two of their people attended the online Global Leadership Summit that was was viewed by over 350-thousand in 100-plus countries. Amanda Stokes is the Director of Aging & Independent Living. Jared Nelson is the Community & Economic Development Projects Coordinator. Stokes and Nelson say participants in Madisonville were part of a community service project in which 200 backpacks were stuffed with school supplies for the Hopkins County Family Resource Youth Service Centers.
Kentucky Congressman James Comer is talking about the subpoenas he issued to Bill and Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Attorneys General and FBI Directors, and for government records related to Jeffrey Epstein. Comer appeared on Fox News Sunday. (Clip in audio below)
You might have noticed that law enforcement tends to focus more on public safety during holidays periods. The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is joining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and law enforcement agencies in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. It runs through September 1st. If you see an impaired driver, safely pull over and contact law enforcement by dialing 9-1-1. Last year in Kentucky, there were over 42-hundred crashes involving an impaired driver.
The Madisonville Police are announcing the arrest of a man who was bothering Family Dollar customers. They say Nathanael McCarty was intoxicated. The police said that none of McCarty’s sentences made sense, so they booked him into the county jail.
When news of two people fighting in the road was reported to the police, it wasn’t too long before the officers were speaking to them. Ashley Legrand described what had occurred on West Broadway to the officer while Central Dispatch informed the officer that there was an arrest warrant for Legrand. She also admitted to having synthetic marijuana in her possession.
One of the main concerns of city hall is helping to make more housing options available. It’s a complex problem that involve many factors. Here’s Mayor Cotton. (Clip in audio below) Mayor Cotton says rental markets are at capacity. He also says there’s a lot of flip-housing going on.
The Hopkins County Regional Chamber of Commerce is beginning to promote the Healthcare Roundtable. It will be at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville on September 9th. It will be at the new Hopkins County Extension Service at 25 Mahr Park Drive. It will focus on mental health in today’s workplace. Details are on the Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
The hot air balloons are making a return visit to Madisonville. Madisonville Illuminated at Mahr Park Arboredum will be on Friday the 29th from 4 until 10. The event is free, but the tethered balloon rides require a ticket.
