The Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation says the new retail center is already making an impact. Some stores at the Town Center just off Island Ford Road are reporting first-week sales two to three times higher than they expected. The E-D-C says retail projects like this are an important part of economic development because they keep spending local, they create jobs, they attract visitors, and they enhance the amenities that help retain and recruit workforce. There are still more stores to open at the Town Center.
The Hopkins County Humane Society says while the community waits for the new shelter to be constructed, it’s needful to have your animals spayed and neutered. Two organizations that offer free or low cost fees are the Bowling Green-Warren County Animal Shelter and the Friends of Butler County Animals.
Kentucky’s first medical marijuana dispensary will be in Beaver Dam. The Post Dispensary will open this fall. The program allows patients with numerous diseases or conditions to obtain medical cannabis cards with a practitioner’s certification. Two well-respected local law enforcement officers are retiring. The Madisonville police say Lieutenant Corey Miller will be missed. Miller served for 20 years. At the same time, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the retirement of Deputy Jeff Ford after 31 years.
All appointments at each regional driver’s license office yesterday will be rescheduled. The network interruption with the license vendor’s system has been identified. Appointment holders and walk in customers were given renewal forms, passes to return for expedited service, or codes to return home so they can renew online at a later time. +
In Madisonville, work is continuing on the U-S 41-A improvement project. In recent days, the work has been delayed due to severe weather and difficulty moving existing utilities out of the way. The project will improve just over 3 miles of U.S. 41-A from Yorkwood Place to Industrial Drive. One of the biggest changes motorists will see is an entirely new and safer intersection with KY 1034. Most of the work is entirely new construction, with motorists experiencing only minor traffic delays. The project is slated to be completed by Christmas of next year.
A city in Kentucky is experimenting with allowing any resident to raise as many as 5 chickens on his property. Eric Bonzo lives in the the Kenton County town of Elsmere. (Clip in audio below)

In Webster County, all parents are asked to complete the online school registration process. This is for all students: grades K through 12. If you need log-in credentials with the parent portal, contact your local school. You can change anything that needs to be updated. If you have a new student or kindergartener, you’ll need to go to the school to complete the registration
