The new president of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators is the director of pupil personnel for Hopkins County Schools. The chief officer says Dr. April Devine is lifelong educator who has a deep understanding of student needs, school operations, and statewide policy. Her leadership journey began in the classroom as an English teacher and dance coach. Dr. Devine has degrees from Murray State University and Oakland City University.
It’s common practice for a police officer to stop every vehicle not displaying an up to date license plate. Jerry Crosby also could not produce a driver’s license, or proof of insurance. Crosby was arrested and his vehicle was towed away.
The Kentucky Department for Public Health is updating the guidelines for giving over the counter and prescription medications to students at school. All medications brought to school must be accompanied by a provider’s note. It must include instructions and a signature. All prescriptions must have a presentation copy as well as the properly labeled precription medication for in-school administration.
The numbers of young people negatively affected by vaping continues to rise. Dr. Scott Bickel says a whole new generation of young people are becoming addicted to these nicotine-related products. (Clip in audio below) Dr. Scott Bickel is the medical director for respiratory therapy in Louisville at Norton Children’s Hospital.
The assistant manager for a Madisonville Dollar General is accused of stealing store funds of over 27-hundred dollars. The police say 43-year-old Melissa Kittinger is charged with theft. They have video of her taking a deposit on July 20th. After being placed under arrest, she told police she believed the deposit was stolen from her vehicle because her wallet containing her ID had been stolen from her vehicle. Kittinger was arrested on August 1st.
It’s a good thing to contact the police when something odd seems to be happening. The police were informed that a car had been parked in a person’s backyard facing the house with its headlights on and the driver’s door opened for 30 minutes with a person slumped-over in the driver’s seat. The police reported seeing a glass smoking pipe in plain view. When awakened, Aaron Shelton admitted that he had been smoking meth. Shelton was arrested on two charges.
A burglary charge is being made against the woman who entered a residence on Brown Lane and began picking up items. When the intruder was spotted by the victim, she dropped everything and ran. The victime then phoned the cops and gave them a description of the intruder. Lachunte (luh-SHOOT) Hopson Spencer was apprehended on Silkwood Avenue. The officer reported that he told her to stop several times before she obeyed. She told the officer that she thought it was a friend’s house and that she did not commit a crime. Upon being arrested, Hopson Spencer began screaming and demanding to see the police supervisor. She faces six charges.
In Muhlenberg County, the school district needs more mentors. Mentors are willing to spend 30 minutes a week with a student. Training sessions will soon take place.
