The man who admitted to the police that he fired three rifle shots at another person is facing two charges. The police arrested Aaron Cates at a residence on North Russell Drive. The police say the shots placed motorists and residents in the area at extreme risk. The officers found a 22-caliber spent casing outside Cates’ front door.
The state police are reporting on a program that targeted drug networks. Operation Summer Heat 2 point 0 is what led to 197 arrests. 21 of those were in Post 2. Information about treatment programs is available at Find Help Now K-y dot O-R-G.
Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville now has a new transportation van to serve its patients. Transportation can often be a barrier for receiving health care and lead to a longer length of stay for patients, particularly for those living in rural areas. When the Baptist Health Deaconess Foundation sought a partner to help address this ongoing issue, the Eveland family and Ideal Rocket Oil stepped up and provided a van. Barry Eveland says he and his wife are both R-Ns and have some insight into how the van can be used to serve patients and make their lives easier and better.
An official pre-school event in Hopkins County is today at Victory Church. Besides meeting the school and district staff, it will allow families to receive assistance with online registration, connect with community resources, and receive free school supplies. The Back-to-School Community Resource Bash is today from 3 until 5. The Victory Church is located at 615 Brown Road.
In Madisonville, maintenance on I-69 will continue thru the end of August. The work is being done on mile points 113 to 118. Drivers should anticipate delays and ramp closures.
The governor says the economic growth of Western Kentucky has been unlike any other region in the Commonwealth. Andy Beshear is referencing the 43 million dollar investment of the Canadian-based company E. Hofmann Packaging that is expected to create 164 jobs. Ground has now been broken on a 100-thousand square foot packaging facility on the west side of town. It’s expected to be completed next year.
In Hopkins County, the new auxiliary gym at Hopkins Central can also serve as as community shelter during severe weather. The governor took a tour of the facility at this week’s dedication. . The Heritage Hall at Central includes a display case featuring the 1967 Earlington High School State Basketball Championship trophy. There are also slideshows for South Hopkins High School, West Hopkins High School, and the former community schools.
The police say the driver they arrested recently who made an illegal lane change and who ran a red light has an extensive history of drug abuse and impaired driving convictions. The police say Robert Caudill was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested on South Main Street. A vehicle search of Caudill’s Honda Odyssey produced an open alcoholic beverage and some bourbon in a flask.
