The company that’s bringing 164 new jobs to Hopkins County has its groundbreaking ceremony today (Tuesday). E. Hofmann Packaging says it will be at the U-S 41-A Industrial Site which is at 31-13 Nebo Road. This will be the Canadian company’s first U-S operation. Local and state officials will be on hand. It begins at at noon.
The M-P-D is now holding a man who was thought to have an active arrest warrant. When the officers approached, Thelester Washington took off running on West Arch Street. Before surrenduring to the cops, he was seen tossing something black into the grass. It was a handgun. Washington also was in possession of suspected meth. He was also charged with possessing a handgun because he is a convicted felon.
If you’d like to be a truck driver, this may be for you. Madisonville Community College will host a Truck Driving Open House to introduce the opportunities available, as well as provide details about C-D-L training options. It will be at the North Campus parking lot on Wednesday, the 30th from 11 until 1. It’s also a chance for employers to learn how M-C-C can help meet their workforce needs.
The Green River Area Development District is helping income-eligible grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. The Kentucky Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program helps cover up to 500-dollars for essential purchases. They have to reapply annually until the child is 18. The program is open to people in Webster and six other counties.
The season is about to begin at the West Kentucky A-T-V Park. It reopens on Saturday, August 2nd at 7 AM. There are also new hours. The weekday hours will be from 8 until 2. The weekend hours are from 7 until 5.
Madisonville has a new event. Mayor Cotton says Madisonville Salutes will be at City Park. (Clip in audio below) It will be on Saturday, September 13th at City Park.
A trespassing complaint is what drew a police officer to the Jamestown Loop Apartments. The manager pointed out that he wanted Amanda Robinson removed from the property. The officer immediately noticed that she was manifestly under the influence of alcohol. She gave the officer permission to search her vehicle. A gabapentin pill was located and she admitted that she had recently taken suboxone. After being tested for her sobriety, Robinson was placed under arrest.
A deputy with the Webster County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that he was able to apprehend a man with an active arrest warrant out of Hopkins County. Shantea Woodruff faces three drug charges, including Possession of a Controlled Substance. Woodruff was located as the deputy was on routine patrol in Providence.
A long awaited event occurs today. The Hopkins County Schools will have the ribbon cutting of the two high school auxiliary gyms and storm shelters. It’s at 1 o’clock today at Hopkins Central. It will include self-guided tours.
The Hopkins County Humane Society has just a few weeks to find homes for the last 17 animals at their shelter before it’s scheduled to be demolished. The building at 22-10 Laffoon Trail was too damaged from the April tornado to repair. When the old building is gone, construction will begin.
