Hopkins County has two new high school auxiliary gyms and storm shelters. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1 at Hopkins Central at 66-25 Hopkinsville Road. Governor Beshear is expected to speak. An Open house will follow.
The Madisonville City Council will have a Special Called Meeting. It will be the first reading of an ordinance amending the classification and compensation plan. The meeting will be on Friday the 25th at 10 at City Hall.
A Madisonville man is headed to federal prison for 10 years. 65-year-old Michael Skinner was stopped by law enforcement almost a year ago for excessive window tinting. A K-9 found narcotics in the vehicle. As a result of his conduct and his criminal history, the Court imposed the sentence. This case was investigated by the DEA in Paducah, and the Madisonville Police.
In Frankfort, the governor is reporting that the 2025 fiscal year has has ended with a number of positives. Andy Beshear says there’s a surplus of 313 million dollars. (Clip in audio below)
The Kentucky Department of Education is highlighting several schools with exceptional academic performance. The only Hopkins County school is Dawson Springs Junior-Senior High School. To help other schools, the schools on this list documented and shared their insights.
It’s taking a while to grasp the impact of this year’s 4th Fest and Praise in the Park. A record 32-thousand visitors from the state and region attended the 3-day event that began on July 4th. Hotels and restaurants reported lots of business. The Praise in the Park concert on Sunday had a record crowd of over 14-thousand. The city is also reporting that foot traffic data confirmed one of the highest tourism influxes in recent city history.
The Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation is excited to announce the second industrial site in 18 months to move into active development. Phase 1 of a multi-phase development effort at Madisonville Industrial Park Two is being made possible by a 340-thousand dollar Kentucky Product Development Initiative. It will fund due diligence and infrastructure planning and prepare the site to meet the expectations of manufacturers and site selectors. The first site on U-S 41-A is the Hofmann Packaging site across from G-E Aerospace. It will add 164 jobs.
The recently retired principal of Dawson Springs Junior & Senior High School is the recipient of one of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators highest honors. Dr. Todd Marshall has been presented the Distinguished Service Award for exceptional leadership. For more than two decades, he exemplified servant leadership across a wide range of roles, including special education teacher, guidance counselor, director of pupil personnel, director of health and safety, and principal at both the elementary and high school levels. They say Dr. Marshall represents the best of what public education can be.
Dawson Springs says the early pickup of trash will continue this week due to the heat advisory. Residents are to place their trash out the night night before their pickup day, so that the crew can pick it up at 2:30 A-M. If you can, share this information with your neighbors.
A former coach of the Madisonville Maroons is now in the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Don Parson’s 1984 Maroons went 32 and 2 before losing in the state finals by 2 points.
