In the business world, it’s generally believed that the more people you know, the better. That’s why the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Corporation, and Tourist and Convention Commission is hosting another Small Business Roundtable. It’s this morning at 9 at city hall. A light breakfast will be served.
Due to storm damage and building code issues, the Hopkins County Humane Society will demolish its Madisonville facility at 2210 Laffoon Trail . Before it’s razed, there are a limited number of days to find homes for the last 17 animals. Adopters and fosters are needed. You can learn more on the Humane Society’s social media.
You’re invited to a ribbon cutting. The Hopkins County Schools say it’s for the opening of their Middle School Career Labs. The event recognizes the launch of the Paxton Patterson Career Labs at each middle school, James Madison, Browning Springs , South Hopkins, and West Hopkins. These labs will impact more than 15-hundred students by providing exposure to Career & Technical Education. The event takes place at James Madison Middle School on Friday, the 1st at 4.
This week, the state police are part of the 6-State Trooper Project to remind drivers to protect those who protect them. Kentucky’s Move Over Law requires motorists to slow down and move over when they see flashing lights. They say it’s not just respectful, it’s the law.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Madisonville police are hoping for a very successful Cram the Cruiser event tomorrow at the Hanson Walmart. School supplies and donations will be collected from 8 until 2. You can also drop off supplies at the police department on Center Street.
Madisonville city officials are celebrating this year’s 4th Fest and Praise in the Park events. With an attendance of more than 32-thousand, Madisonville can now say that it is the largest outdoor music festival in Western Kentucky. The city says there was definitely a boost to the local economy with visitors from 13 states eating, shopping, and sleeping here.
Thousands of Kentuckians have the legal right to use medical marijuana but at this time, it’s not for sale in the Bluegrass State. While it could be available this summer, there are lots of hoops for the producers to jump through to make that happen. Here is Attorney Brad Clark. (Clip in audio below) Clark says that every state that has legalized medical marijuana has to follow the same procedures. Residents using the product have had to order it from out of state.
In Frankfort, there’s news with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. There now is a tax credit program that encourages the continued use of agricultural land for farming. The Kentucky Selling Farmer Tax Credit program grants tax credits to farmers selling agricultural land and assets to eligible buyers who will continue using the land for farming operations. The state says sellers may be eligible for a Kentucky income tax credit of up to 5 percent of the sale price of qualifying agricultural assets that are subject to annual and lifetime tax credit caps.
A lot of work is being done on I-69 in Madisonville. All of the milling and paving is being done at night when the traffic levels are reduced. The project will continue through August from 6 PM until 6 AM.
