In Hopkins County, lawsuits are being filed against the Mexican restaurant that is linked to 23 cases of Giardia (gee-AR-dee-uh). The number of cases is expected to increase at the El Tapatio (tah-puh-TEE-oh) restaurant. The health department says other areas of potential Giardia exposure are being investigated. The illnesses are caused by parasites that take a while to appear. They say symptoms usually start up in about two weeks. It’s being reported that the El Tapatio (tah-puh-TEE-oh) restaurant is cooperating with the Health Department.
The process of making special purpose vehicles legal to drive involves several steps. The fiscal court and the sheriff’s office have to approve and inspect them. Then, County Clerk Keenan Cloern says her office takes over. (Clip in audio below)

The Sebree police are out with details about the vehicle versus train collision on Sunday morning. It occurred at 12-35 at West Jefferson Street. The vehicle was located several hundred feet from the point of impact. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 22-year-old Jovanie Barco of Sebree.
The city of Madisonville will stage a meeting for small business owners. The Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Corporation, and Tourist and Convention Commission says it will be at city hall on Friday the 25th.
The mother of the daughter who was killed on I-69 last Saturday morning is waiting for the state police to release the cause of the accident. A survivor is quoted as saying that the gas pedal was stuck. It was also found this week that that that vehicle model has been involved in several deadly crashes due to a stuck gas pedal. The state police have not released an official cause of the crash. Jennifer Marshall was on her way to Nashville to pick up her mother at the airport. The funeral for will be tomorrow (Saturday) in Evansville.
The state senator representing Hopkins County is sharing his thoughts regarding the upcoming legislative session in January. The Kentucky Chamber’s Competitiveness Public Policy Council asked Senate Majority Caucus Chair Robby Mills to recap this year’s session and share his insights into the 2026 session. Mills and House Majority Floor Leader Steven Rudy shared that energy and infrastructure are expected priorities, in addition to tax reform, child care, housing, and artificial intelligence.
The sheriff of Hopkins County says their new office that will be located near the West Kentucky Archery Complex is pretty much in the center of the county which will improve law enforcement response time. Here’s Matt Sanderson. (Clip in audio below)
It’s nearly time to open the West Kentucky A-T-V Recreational Area. The Hopkins County Fiscal Court has voted to open the trails on Saturday, August 2nd. It’s situated on 856 acres of reclaimed mining land and offers over 20 miles of trails.
