In Hopkins County, the health department says the Giardia (gee-AR-dee-uh) outbreak has a connection with the El Tapatio (tah-puh-TEE-oh) restaurant. There are 24 confirmed cases. There appears to be a temperature problem with the walk-in refrigerator. Hand washing is key to avoiding the outbreak. Meanwhile, the restaurant is cooperating with the health department. The food is being thrown out, and the restaurant will be closed for maintenance and for staff training. Persons with a diarrhea illness should seek care from a medical provider, and refrain from regular activities until they have been free from the illness for 24 hours.
Details about the train versus car collision in Sebree are being released from the county. The coroner is quoted in the media as saying that 22-year-old Jovanie Barco of Sebree lost his life around 1 PM on Sunday at Webster and Spring Street. It’s believed that Barco attempted to drive around the stop arms before the train could pass.
Frankfort is reporting that 2024 had the lowest total of highway deaths in the last ten years. But there’s more good news, Governor Beshear says the good driving is continuing this year. (Clip in audio below)
The 2028 presidential race is beginning to come together. On Meet the Press this past weekend, Governor Andy Beshear says he would not rule out running for president. The Associated Press, says Mr. Beshear will spend two days touring South Carolina this week, and will focus on union members in addition to the state’s Black community.
A driver pulled over for careless driving on I-69 told the officer that he could not search the vehicle. That led the officer to call for the K-9 Loki to visit the traffic stop. While waiting for the dog, the officer discovered that Ann Earl’s driver’s license was suspended and that she could not prove she had auto insurance. Loki arrived to find a broken glass meth pipe with meth residue inside it. Altogether, Earl faces 6 charges.

In Slaughters, the county coroner is releasing the names of the two drivers killed in a Saturday morning automobile crash. 30-year-old Heather Greer from Henderson and 31-year-old Gregory Lundy from Indianapolis passed away after being airlifted to Deaconess in Evansville. One passenger from each vehicle was also treated.
The former fire chief in Sturgis will return to court for a pre-trial conference on August 5th. Chad Cullen has been indicted by a grand jury. He is accused of stealing over 50-thousand dollars from state aid grants to make personal purchases and unauthorized expenditures. Cullen is charged wiih Abuse of Public Trust, which is a Class C Felony. The crime was committed from January 2022 and December 2024.
