Channel 25 is reporting that a local restaurant is shut down due to a giardia (gee-ARE-dee-uh) threat. El Tapatio at 401 Madison Square Drive is temporarily closed so the employees can be trained and maintenance can be accomplished. The illness can be also contracted from water sources like lakes, pools or streams. It can also be spread from unwashed hands touching food and other surfaces after using the bathroom. In the past month, over 20 cases have been reported. The number of cases involving El Tapatio is not known.
A Madisonville man is in the Crittenden County Detention Center. At a campground in the Land Between the Lakes, a Lyon County sheriff’s deputy and the state police say 32-year-old Aaron Williams had been assaulting a female victim who was with her child. They discovered that the Madisonville police had investigated Williams for a similar incident a few weeks ago.
We’re hearing that the film industry likes what it sees in Kentucky. It offers the best tax incentives in the nation to filmmakers and offers a variety of communities willing to participate. Director Kristi Kilday says the new Kentucky film industry has to provide a lot of jobs to stabilize production. She says actors will also be needed. (Clip in audio below) The West Kentucky Film Commission says as the industry grows, its impact will reach far beyond the industry.
The Hopkins County School Board will recognize the Spring Sports Athletes of the Year when they meet this afternoon at 5:30 at 3-20 South Seminary.
The M-P-D is describing a traffic stop on West Noel where the driver was not wearing her seatbelt and her vehicle was equipped with an inadequate silencer. The officer discovered that Devin Storms’ Nissan Altima smelled like burnt marijuana. A search located suspected meth and fentanyl. While she was detained, Storms kept asking the officer if she could use the suspected fentanyl.
Hopkins County is working to allow special purpose vehicles on the road. Sheriff Matt Sanderson says they will have to meet the standards devised by the fiscal court. (Clip in audio below)
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says a man with arrest warrants is now incarcerated. Recently, a deputy spotted Rodger Belt in Diamond at the Redwood Gas Station. When a deputy made contact with him, he described Belt as being manifestly under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested after the deputy located a quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. There were arrest warrants for Belt in both Webster and Union counties.
The water problem in Providence is improving. Last week, a water main broke and created a boil water advisory. Now, emergency management says the leak is fixed and they are having the water tested. They are reporting that the boil water advisory has been lifted for all areas served by the City of Providence Water Distribution System except the Diamond area.
