The Hopkins County Health Department wants to warn everyone of the danger posed by raccoons. Three people have been bitten in the last two weeks. Now, they have to be tested for rabies since the animals cannot be tested. Besides raccoons, skunks, foxes, and bats are common carriers of rabies.
When a cop spots a driver he previously stopped for driving without a license, you know what he’ll be checking. In this case, the traffic stop on East Center at the Stop & Go found that Jesus Hernandez still had no license. In this case, Hernandez failed a sobriety test. The officer also found an open container of alcohol in the Ford 150 truck.
The state police are announcing the results of this year’s 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞-𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞. It’s aimed at protecting children from online exploitation. 16 arrests were made. Over 70 investigations were launched stemming from complaints and cyber tips. Here is Lieutenant Mike Bowling. (Clip in audio below) 16 cases were submitted for state prosecution and two cases for federal prosecution.
The state will be doing G-E-D testing in 25 locations. This includes Hopkins County. It’s being said that this new traveling unit is the state’s latest effort to remove barriers to educational access. In recent years, most everyone taking the G-E-D test has taken advantage of the Free G-E-D promotion. The date that the mobile unit will be in Hopkins County will be announced later.
Wherever you turn, you’re hearing opinions about the recently passed the Big Beautiful Bill. The president says it addresses many of the issues that most Americans want. Hopkins County State Senator Robbie Mills likes it. (Clip in audio below)
A Texas man who has been living in Madisonville for a month is facing three charges. Using the Flock camera system that allows law enforcement to know if a vehicle may be involved in a crime, the M-P-D located Michael Alegria. During the traffic stop on West Noel, he was informed that during an earlier encounter with the M-P-D, he had given them a false name. Alegria then admitted that there was a warrant for his arrest. He said he had resided in Kentucky for over a month without notifying the state of an address change.
A very small gas leak is what sent the fire department to an address in the 200 block of East McLaughlin Avenue on Tuesday afternoon. The residents were outside when the fire crew arrived. Atmos Energy had the detector that was sensitive enough to locate the leak.
Our state’s senior senator says the Protecting American Farmlands Act addresses the steady decline in available farmland by easing the tax burden on producers. Mitch McConnell says it encourages farmers to keep their land in agricultural production so as to curb the loss of farmland. The President of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation says the measure is a crucial first step in providing America’s farmers capital gains relief while incentivizing keeping farmland in the hands of active farmers.
