Work on I-69 in Madisonville is going to impact traffic through the end of the week. The left lane of both the north and southbound section will be blocked between Island Ford Road at the 116 mile marker and just south of Center Street. It’s a 4 and a third mile long section. Enhanced fines are in effect, as well as a 55-mile an hour speed limit.
The Madisonville police have the details about a stabbing on Pride Avenue. When the officers arrived at the residence in the 200 block, Lukas Miller had a strong alcoholic odor and was slurring his words. His brother was still there with a wounded shoulder. The knife was impounded and Lukas Miller’s brother was rushed to the E-R. In making the arrest, Miller was charged with crimes against the officers. They included terroristic threatening.
Madisonville’s newest industry is homegrown so to speak. All signals indicate that this is the time for the West Kentucky Film Commission. The Executive Director of the Hopkins County Tourist & Convention Commission is Trish Noel. (Clip in audio below)
In Hopkins County, a free art program for middle and high school students aims to build relationships between schools and families. An educator at Madisonville North started it last year. Tonia Leal says printmaking, sidewalk chalk art and clay sculptures foster acceptance and allow participants to express themselves artistically. Educators say the Kentucky Community Schools Initiative program is increasing student motivation., school attendance, engagement and improved relationships with teachers.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a driver who they say was posing a great danger on I-69. Berlin Martinez is charged with speeding, careless driving, and with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The officer attempted to do a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and found that Matinez did not have a driver’s license. At the county jail, Martinez admitted that he had had three drinks.
Around the state, Citizen Foster Care Review Boards invite residents to discuss ways to improve outcomes for families and children in the foster care system. A town hall meeting for the residents of Hopkins, Webster, Muhlenberg, and McLean counties is set for tomorrow. Registration is required. The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says the 15-year-old Providence girl who disappeared on June 1st is now accounted for. She has now been safely located.
The Georgetown University Center for Children and Families says cuts to Medicaid health coverage for women of childbearing age would lead to more hospital closures. Emily Beauregard with Kentucky Voices for Health says cuts to the program would drive up the cost of uncompensated care that would lead to more hospital closures and leave more rural counties without maternity care.

According to the report, Medicaid covered nearly half of all births in rural areas in 2023, the majority occurring in hospitals.
