Weather permitting, it’ll be another busy week with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. When work resumes today, Hopkins County will see a number of sites where there will be mowing, ditching, and pothole repairs. In Muhlenberg County, the jobs include rail mowing and replacing a cross drain. Webster County will have crews doing washout repair, and cross drain replacement.
Some Western Kentuckians want to appeal FEMA’s decision about their assistance. There is an appeal process. If you received a rejection letter, it’s possible that it could be something as simple as a missing statement. Still, if you disagree with their decision, you can appeal. Naturally, this process involves documentation. Visit the FEMA website and follow the appeal procedure. The online address is: Disaster Assistance dot G-O-V.
Kentucky Congressman James Comer of the House Oversight Committee is very interested in Joe Biden’s last days in the White House. Madisonville Community College is announcing the winner of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Tanya Bowman is noted for many contributions to the community. She has volunteered at the Door of Hope Pregnancy Care Center, and established the Plans 4-U Youth Foundation. Bowman has also been honored with the Whitney M. Young Community Improvement Award, the Harriet Tubman Icon Award, and the Madisonville Lions Club’s Woman of the Year.
The Madisonville police are charging a local man with insurance fraud and false reporting. 56-year-old George Jackson will be in court on Friday. The police say Jackson provided them with suspicious information. The matter originated last October when he reported a nearly 13-thousand dollar theft from his storage unit.
Cleanup following last month’s flooding is a major job. County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield says it’s going to take a long time to address the damaged homes. (Clip in audio below)
Webster County Emergency Management says there’s no doubt that a number of Western Kentuckians suffered damage from last month’s flooding and are entitled to FEMA assistance. You can apply online, over the phone or in person at the Disaster Recovery Center in your county. The center is open 7 days a week. The Monday through Saturday hours are from 9 to 7. Sunday’s hours are from 1 until 7.
Frankfort says this will be the second year of the federal Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program. The program will automatically enroll students in the 6 to 18 age group who are recipients of SNAP, K-TAP or Kinship Care benefits, as well as children attending schools participating in the National School Lunch Program. For families with students not automatically enrolled, applications are available until August 15th at this online address: k-y-s-e-b-t dot k-y dot G-O-V.
