Madisonville’s mayor sits on the board of the organization that provides Kentucky’s cities, leaders and employees with many services. Kevin Cotton says the League of Cities also provides legislative advocacy, legal services, and policy development. (Clip in audio below)
A Madisonville driver is facing a long list of charges after he was stopped by the police because they saw him texting. The police report states that 54-year-old Ronald Cline told the officer he had been texting and driving. Officers say Cline appeared to be under the influence, and that they could smell burnt marijuana. At the hopsital, A saliva test indicated that Cline had stimulants, cannabis, and meth in his system.
Madisonville Community College’s Muhlenberg Campus manager is being honored for her efforts in advancing opportunities for African-Americans in higher education and promoting equal opportunity. The Wendall Thomas Award is going to Brittney Hernandez-Stevenson from the Kentucky Association of Blacks in Higher Education. Hernandez-Stevenson re-established the Muhlenberg County branch of the N-double-A C-P, and currently serves as its president.
In Muhlenberg County, the state is studying two alternatives to improve the Exit 58 interchange. The Project Development Team wants to know what residents think. They suggest visiting the website and then submitting your thoughts. The internet address is: Improving-Exit-58 dot COM.

It’s the season for graduations. The first one involves the HOPKINS COUNTY SCHOOLS ACADEMY. It will be this evening at 6 at Hopkins Central.
An animal shelter in Colorado is stepping up to help the Hopkins County Humane Society. Eight dogs are being shipped to Humane Colorado who will help find them homes. Meanwhile, local residents considering adoption should visit the Hopkins County Humane Society website.
A Dixon bank wants to clear the air. United Community Bank of West Kentucky says it has been informed of fraudulent text messages that claim to be from their bank. United Community Bank of West Kentucky says the texts are not from them. They strongly suggest not clicking on any of the links.
Our junior senator is out with an announcement for those who need FEMA assistance. Senator Rand Paul says those who have applied for FEMA assistance after the April storms will receive a letter or email from FEMA. He says if you have questions about your letter, or disagree with the initial decision, call the FEMA disaster assistance helpline.
