Obituary
He was born on June 23, 1935, in Detroit, MI, to the late Vera Francis Ashby Starr and Russell Vern Starr. He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was formerly employed as a survey engineer for Peabody Coal Company. He influenced many young men in his years as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop #731. He liked wildflowers and hiking. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Charles attended Lifepoint Church in White Plains, KY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Louise Potts Starr; and his granddaughters, Whitney Nicole Starr and Jennifer Lee Hardin.
His survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years, Melinda Wells Starr of Nortonville; children, Steve (Treasa) Starr of Madisonville, Suzan Hardin of Wilmington, NC, John (Carson Christian) Starr of Manhattan, NY, son, Nathan (Marci) Starr of Martinsburg, PA, and Mark Starr of Ashland, KY; step-sons, Trent (Kristie) Smith of Redding, CA, and Mark Smith of Paducah, KY; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025. in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Doster officiating. Burial to follow at Concord Cemetery in Manitou, KY.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
