The Madisonville City Council will have a Special Called Meeting this afternoon at 4:30. It will be the 2nd reading of the ordinance that would adopt the city’s budget that is scheduled to begin on July 1st. The meeting will be involved with estimating revenues and resources, and appropriating funds to operate the city government. The city council has cancelled their May 19th meeting.
The city says the new Madisonville Town Center will start opening in early summer. The new stores include Hobby Lobby and Aldi. Mayor Cotton says many are expecting the service roads to be crammed until some other road construction is complete. (Clip in audio below)
Using radar, an Anton Road driver is facing four charges. Dustin Massey also had no registration plates or receipt, and had no auto insurance. The traffic stop of Massey took place on Anton Road at Earl Cross Drive.
The driver of a car that failed to use a turn signal on South Main is one of the recent persons arrested in Hopkins County. Ian Rogers’ drivers license had been suspended for a D-U-I charge. The traffic stop was on South Main at Don Earl.
Hopkins Central is searching for a basketball coach. Mason Burgett is stepping down after just one season as the boy’s coach. Last year, the Storm went 10 and 16.
The state says highway fatalities are down. Officials say this seems to indicate that more people are buckling up, putting the phone down, obeying the speed limit and driving sober.

A motorist on Island Ford Road, is facing six charges. During the traffic stop, Joseph Anoman (AN-oh-men) was notified that his Volkswagen G-T-I registration had lapsed. Anoman was not in possession of his driver’s license, had no proof of auto insurance, but did have a warrant for his arrest in Warren County. A drug dog then located some narcotics, thought to be meth, and what was thought to be fentanyl. Both Anoman and his passenger were placed under arrest. April Eddington is also facing three drug charges.
The Hopkins County Clerk’s Office is out with this. Beginning June 27th, special purpose vehicles can be titled and registered for use on Kentucky roadways. Senate Bill 63 is the new law that permits counties and cities to establish an ordinance allowing operation of street-legal special purpose vehicles on highways within their respective jurisdiction. Local governments also may adopt more stringent local regulations on vehicle safety equipment and operation than the state regulation. To be a street-legal special purpose vehicle, the vehicle must be equipped with essential safety features. It also must be registered, insured and pass an inspection. This means street legal A-T-V’s.
The F-B-I says sextortion cases in Kentucky are on the rise. At least 20 suicides, mostly boys, have been reported. Detective Lorin Payne is with the internet crimes against children unit. (Clip in audio below)
