The state says the water levels continue to drop at a steady pace but still, flooding
continues. The safe thing to do when encountering a warning sign is turn around. It’s always a good idea to check the road
conditions before you drive. There are still dangerous locations that need to be avoided.
A new gas range is being evaluated at a residence in the 700 block of South Kentucky.
The occupants phoned the emergency number to report the smell of gas. The monitors used by the fire department also
detected gas. This led the homeowner to shut off the gas and contact the installer as well as Atmos Energy.
Our junior senator says the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees freedom of
speech, and many Americans do not understand it. Here is Rand Paul at a government hearing.

A new state law will impact sexual assault survivors. The Kentucky Association of Sexual
Assault Programs is leading a coalition to create a training curriculum that meets the core content required by H-B 2-19 and
helps ensure better care for survivors. They are hearing from hospitals and emergency departments in developing a
streamlined, trauma-informed training program to support emergency department staff. Also working to help achieve this
goal is the Kentucky Hospital Association.
It’s being reported that the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund has built or
repaired 244 homes since the 2021 tornadoes. About the most recent one is in on Mineral Street in Dawson Springs for Eric
Cotton and Laura Brown. It was dedicated this week.
A malfunctioning sump pump is what drew the Madisonville Fire Department to a
residence on Sugg Street. The residents could smell something electrical burning and were outdoors. The fire crew
removed the pump and the house was cleared of smoke.
It’s never wrong to call for help when you see smoke. A family in the 400 block of
Audubon Loop did just that recently. The fire crew did a thorough investigation of the garage and house but found nothing.
The homeowner was advised to call back if the smoke reappeared, and was told not open the garage door.

A cold case is back before Post 2 of the Kentucky State Police. Murder victim 93-year-
old Dorothy Sparks lost her life in April of last year. That’s when the Princeton Fire Department was called to her South
Jefferson Street home. The state police are encouraging anyone with information about the death of Dorothy Sparks to
contact the Hopkinsville-Christian County Crime Stoppers.
