Hopkins County is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance for those who are out of work due to last month’s severe storms. The assistance is available for up to 29 weeks of unemployment beginning April 6th until October 25th, or as long as the individual’s unemployment continues to be a direct result of the disaster. You can file a claim on the Kentucky Career Center website at k-c-c dot k-y dot G-O-V.
Madisonville is about to get its fire protection assessment and classification. I-S-O ratings are used to classify the quality of a community’s fire protection. Mayor Kevin Cotton is a former Madisonville firefighter. He says the insurance companies use these ratings to evaluate their protection. In Muhlenberg County, the Old National Bank Foundation is looking for philanthropic projects. Four areas are suggested: affordable housing, economic development, workforce development and financial empowerment. The application deadline is June 11th.
Online registration is now underway with the Webster County Schools. It’s for all students, new and old. If needed, the district says parents and guardians should go to their child’s school to receive login credentials. If you have a new student, parents and guardians will have to visit the school to complete online registration. There is a new form. Every student must complete the Authorization and Consent for Medical Treatment by a school nurse.
It’s not smart to be driving 25 miles an hour over the speed limit on the Western Kentucky Parkway while in possession of a large amount of marijuana and cash. Central City Police arrested Nicholas Loxley of California this week. They say Loxley is now residing at the Muhlenberg County Jail.

In Madisonville, the Hopkins County Young Professionals is taking nominations for the Hopkins County Hall of Fame. These are persons who have achieved excellence in their profession or public service, and have made a difference through leadership or philanthropy. Kentucky Representative James Comer continues to get questions about Dr. Anthony Fauci allowing taxpayer dollars to fund risky and secretive gain-of-function research, including the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. Mr. Comer appeared on Fox News. (Clip in audio below)
