The Hopkins County Disaster Recovery Center is at 6-05 East Arch Street. FEMA representatives will be explaining available assistance programs, how to apply to FEMA, and help connect survivors with resources for their recovery needs. Representatives from the Kentucky Office of Unemployment Insurance, the Kentucky Department of Insurance and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will also be available. FEMA is encouraging flood victims to apply for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible. The center is open Monday through Saturday from 9 to 7, and on Sunday from 1 to 7. You do not need to visit a center to apply with FEMA. If you are unable to visit the center, the online address is: Disaster-Assistance dot g-o-v.
Law enforcement is hoping the public can help them locate two shoplifters. Central City police say a man and a woman left with a case of beer from the Dollar General at 2-18 South 2nd Street. The channel 14 website has a photo of the suspects.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy’s decision to cut a majority of jobs at the federal agency responsible for worker health and safety is seen as a direct attack on Kentucky workers. The president of the Kentucky AFL-CIO is Dustin Reinstedler. He explains Kentucky relies on National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health data to protect workers. (Clip in audio below)

The governor is in the process of submitting all of the counties who qualify for federal assistance to help with last month’s floods. Hopkins County was in the first group of 13 counties named to receive help. Webster County was not in that group, but expects to be named. To keep up, many are using the FEMA app. Another address is: Disaster-Assistance dot G-O-V.

The driver of a swerving car on East Center Street in Madisonville Monday night is facing 4 charges. Elmer Garcia did not have a driver’s license. His only identification was his Honduran passport. His auto insurance had expired. Garcia was arrested just after 9 PM.
The flooding in Dawson Springs is hampering efforts to rebuild much of the city’s sewage system that was damaged after the tornado four years ago. Mayor Jenny Sewell describes it as a major project. She says the large vehicles needed for the work actually made things worse, in a sense. (Clip in audio below)
Webster County Emergency Management is announcing that the Poole AT&T tower will be down for maintenance on Thursday morning for about an hour beginning at around 8.
Madisonville will be the site of another big basketball tournment this weekend. Over 100 teams are involved. One of the big issues in the first year of the Kentucky Sports Factory is seating. The new bleachers wil be used for the first time this weekend.
