Doyle Oakley Obituary
Doyle Wayne Oakley,84, of Providence, KY passed away on Sunday April 27, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN.
Doyle was born on June 24, 1940, the son of the late Mr. Elmer Oakley and Mrs. Dorothy Margaret Hopper Oakley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia on September 1, 2013, his daughter, Alison Whitledge on January 3, 2014, his sister, Annetta Heady and his brother, Jimmy Oakley.
Doyle was a member of Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, past President of the Providence Jaycee’s, he coached little league baseball, football, basketball, women’s softball, he was a US Army reserve veteran, he participated in Savage Days, he worked for the city of Providence, volunteer firefighter, he retired from West KY Hospital Services where he was a purchasing agent, and he enjoyed playing golf. Doyle spent many years coaching sports at the field behind his house. He coached the Little League until he began coaching women’s softball. His team, Franklin Coal, was a team to be reckoned with in the region. They made multiple trips to regional tournaments and state tournaments. They played throughout the region in tournaments most weekends during the summer. Mr. Oakley was committed to helping his players become great softball players and took pride in his girls from these teams and was loved by them all. Along with Tony Felker he was named Citizen of the Year in 2003.
Doyle is survived by his daughter, Beverly (Ray) Fowler of Providence, KY; two grandchildren, Logan Whitledge, and Macie (Daniel) Dills, great grandsons, Kooper and Kohen.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 30, 2025, at 1:00PM in the Lucille Melton Memorial Chapel at Lewis Funeral Home LLC with Bro. Johnnie Davis officiating. Entombment will be in the Lakeview Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2025, from 4:00 until 7:00PM and from 9:00AM until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.
