Hopkins County residents will begin to notice FEMA crews. Governor Andy Beshear says he is grateful that the president and Homeland Security approved Individual Assistance for the first 13 counties affected by this month’s floods. Hopkins County is included that that first group. The governor also says… (Clip in audio below) Mr. Beshear says Disaster Survivor Assistance teams will be helping homeowners and renters identify and address immediate needs. They also can provide application status updates and referrals to additional community resources. It should be noted that FEMA teams will never ask for or accept money and will always be wearing a FEMA identification badge that includes a photograph. You should know that a FEMA shirt, vest or jacket is not proof of identity. Residents are encouraged to ask for identification before providing any personal information.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is out with a warning about fraudulent text messages impersonating tolling agencies. These messages often include a link that looks similar to a state licensing website. The scam texts claim unpaid tolls, and threaten fees if payment is not made right away. The state says they do not send text messages to collect tolls. Those who provide personal information are encouraged to contact their bank immediately.
A weaving automobile on Grapevine Road last week is what led to the arrest of the driver. The police learned that there was an arrest warrant for Lillian Hillsbury. She admitted there was marijuana and drug paraphernalia in her Hyundai (HUN-day) Elantra. Later at the jail, it was confirmed that Hillsbury’s auto insurance had been cancelled last year.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is warning residents of fraudulent text messages impersonating tolling agencies, which feature a suspicious link similar to the Transportation Cabinet. If you receive one of these texts, do not click on the link. Even if the website or link looks like it belongs to the transportation cabinet, the text could be a scam. The state will not send text messages to collect tolls, and they are taking appropriate steps to have the fraudulent websites taken down. The scam messages warn customers of unpaid tolls, and indicate fees will be incurred if payment is not sent immediately. If you have provided any personal information, contact your bank immediately.
Police officers will say you never know what to expect during a traffic stop. When Steven Matheny was stopped In Madisonville at Lendmark Financial Services on Madison Square Drive, the officer was notified that Matheny had an outstanding warrant from Christian County. After being asked to step out of the vehicle, Metheny walked to the rear of his Dodge Nitro where he pulled out a meth pipe from his waistband, dropped it on the ground, and crushed it with a shoe. He faces two charges.
The representative in the state house from Hopkins County thinks his elected position will benefit his new position as the president of the Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation. Here is Wade Williams. (Clip in audio below)
The Greenville Police Department needs help with an identity. They are hoping some member of the public can identify a person in a video. If you know this person, please contact authorities.
