The Madisonville Fire Department is out with a report on a collision between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle. It occurred during the noon hour on Wednesday last week at Wendys in East Center Street. The fire department assisted the Medical Center Ambulance Service is loading the motorcyclist onto a spine board so he could be transported to the hospital.
The Madisonville City Council meets this afternoon. They will vote on a resolution to oppose any bills brought forth during this year’s General Assembly by any lawmaker that provides for the mandated centralized collection of local occupational fees or taxes by the state. The meeting begins at 4:30 at City Hall.
The Madisonville City Administrator says the city repaved 90 percent of the streets last year. Rob Saint is glad so much money was available for the road projects, and hopes to keep the momentum this year. Saint says street paving is at the top of his prioity list. He says there are some sewer lines that need attention. Saint says they will be completed by the end of the fiscal year.
In Madisonville, this is the 80th year that the Lions Club has had the Man and Woman of the Year Awards. These are individuals who have made significant contributions to our community. The Madisonville driver who did not have a driver side mirror and an outdated temporary tag is facing four charges. The officer who did the traffic stop Tuesday was sitting at Grapevine and McLeod. Tristan Revelle admitted that she did not have a driver’s license. When she was searched at the jail, an officer found a baggie of suspected meth. Central Dispatch informed the officer that Revelle had been charged with meth possession two years ago.
There’s a movement in Frankfort to form an organization that would spring into action to deal with natural disasters. State Representative John Hotson of Louisville is pushing for the formation of the Kentucky Emergency Volunteer Corps. The program would be funded by donations and grants.
The Madisonville Fire Department says a gas leak on East Center Street is repaired. They contacted Atmos Energy after being notified last Wednesday (the 29th) of the leak at the Hopkins County Property Valuation Administration. The M-F-D reported that the gas was shut off until Atmos personnel could evaluate the conditions.
February is Black History Month. M-C-C will have a public Kentucky Humanities Council presentation by Obadiah Ewing-Roush entitled John G. Fee: Abolitionist. It will be on Tuesday the 4th in the John H. Gray Building at 12:20.
