The M-P-D has the report of a hit and run traffic accident last week. One driver left the scene but not before a cop got a photo of his license plate. Arrested at his home in Hanson was Olegario Tapia Medrano (o-lay-GAR-ee-o tah-PEE-uh may-DRAH-no). He pled guilty to leaving the scene. The driver of the other car sustained a minor injury but refused to visit the hospital.
The Kentucky Equal Justice Center believes the privatization of the U-S Postal Service could leave Kentucky’s rural areas without mail service and hinder critical functions like receiving checks and paying taxes. Some House Republicans, including Tyler Offerman with the Kentucky Equal Justice Center says privatization would eliminate essential infrastructure in rural counties. Offerman says 54 of the Commonwealth’s 120 counties are entirely rural with no urban center.
Our senior senator likes the new Secretary of the Treasury. Mitch McConnell says the American people voted resoundingly to return to commonsense, pro-growth policies after four years of reckless spending and runaway inflation. The senator believes Scott Bessent’s financial foresight and private sector expertise will be immediate assets to the President.
There’s a new webpage for scam alerts. The Administrative Office of the Courts says it will protect Kentuckians from payment scams, including those involving fake arrest warrants and missed jury service. The Madisonville Police Department says false information is being distributed on social media. A deceptive post claims that three of their female officers have been shot and includes photos of supposed male and female suspects. The M-P-D says all of it is false. They suggest if you come across information that cannot be verified, that you report it to Facebook as a scam.
Sometimes, a cop spots a driver he believes does not have a valid driver’s license. That occurred Sunday morning at 1:15. The traffic stop was done at Huck’s Gas Station on Island Ford Road. Callum Rickard could not provide a driver’s license. After the K-9 Bane discovered drug paraphernalia and two baggies of meth, Rickard was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. The passenger in the Mazda faces similar charges. His name is Cory Navarra.
Madisonville mayor Kevin Cotton says growing the city includes more than building roads and businesses. He says working with existing businesses is a continuing program.
The state senator representing Hopkins County says there is a measure in Frankfort that will help retain County Employees Retirement System employees. Robby Mills believes the measure should help keep Kentucky’s best first responders and police working in the Commonwealth.
A Madisonville home owner is being reminded to make sure the chimney is cleared before starting another fire. One morning last week at 2 AM, the fire department reports that there was a light haze in the residence at 3-26 Barnett Boulevard. The M-F-D says they started a fire before going to bed.
