The new year will see the opening of the state police academy in Madisonville. Mayor Cotton says it’s been a three-year project.
The Madisonville police believe spending time on the back porch of the house next door is a violation of an Emergency Protection Order. That’s what led to the arrest of 38-year-old David Arwine of Madisonville. The order states there has to be at least a 100 foot minimum between the houses. That was not the case with these two homes on South Madison Avenue. Arwine was arrested and also charged with trespassing.
A Madisonville man is missing from the Christian County Detention Center. The state police say Kevin Johnson walked away from a work detail on Saturday afternoon. He is described as 52 years old, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing around 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a black shirt. Anyone with information about Kevin Johnson is asked to contact authorities.
The Green River Area Development District is impressed with Medicare Part D Savings. They say a total of 179 people were assisted in the GRADD region during open enrollment for a savings of almost a quarter of a million dollars.
Next month, the governor will speak at a global event in Switzerland that brings together business, government and academic leaders. This international summit will provide an opportunity for the Governor to introduce our New Kentucky Home to the world, highlighting Kentucky’s record economic momentum. Earlier this year, Site Selection magazine ranked Kentucky third nationally and first in the South Central region for economic development-projects per capita in its 2023 Governor’s Cup rankings.

Today is the last day of year. It’s also the last day to file your property taxes. City Hall will close at noon today.
The Madisonville man who took the vehicle belonging to his girlfriend’s father is facing drug charges. When the police intervened at Parkway Plaza Mall, 24-year-old Trevion Benton was allowed to retrieve his personal belongings from the Ford Escape. The police intervened and found that Benton had a piece of aluminum foil with meth residue on it, along with an eyeglass case containing suspected meth. They also found a glass smoking pipe.
In Muhlenberg County, Spruce Up the ‘Berg applications are due in just under two weeks! The Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation is hoping to receive applications from organizations and individuals looking to make a difference by beautifying and re-imagining public spaces with projects such as public art installations or murals, clean-up days, and tree and flower planting.
The Commonwealth is expanding its registered apprenticeship program to include early childhood education and childcare industries. Michelle DeJohn of the Kentucky Department of Workforce Development says the number of apprentices has increased to more than 66-hundred.
Rising apprenticeships statewide come at a time when more employers are considering skills-based hiring over degrees.
The Green River Area Development District has three new officers. They are the judge executives: Charlie Castlen of Daviess, Johnny Roberts Jr. of Hancock, and Curtis Dame of McLean.
