The Hopkins County School District is out with next year’s calendar. You can see it on the district’s website. The first day for students will be Wednesday, August 14th. Fall Break is the week of October 7th.
The Madisonville City Council meets this afternoon. It begins at 4:30 in the City Council Chambers on North Main Street.
There’s much anticipation for the new Kentucky Sports Factory in Madisonville. The facility offers 22 pickleball courts, 12 volleyball courts, six basketball courts, and a 60-yard indoor soccer field.
Opening day is coming in January.
Even now, the first day of the new presidential administration is often being mentioned. The chair the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee says day one will see lawmakers voting on his bill to block migrants from seeking asylum if they enter our country illegally. Senator Rand Paul also plans to use his chairmanship to advance legislation to end government funding of illegal immigrant travel in our country.
The annual Farm City Breakfast in Hopkins County includes a number awards. On Wednesday morning, County Jailer Mike Lewis and Sergent James Maxberry accepted the award of Environmentalist of the Year. Lewis and Maxberry says the award would not have been possible without the diligent work of the Community Service Road Crews.

The National Weather Service says an extended cold snap is forecast over the next week. Temperatures that would be below normal, even for January are expected for several days.
A light fixture is not supposed to make noise when it’s on. That’s what led a resident of Bayview Drive to phone the fire department. The fire crew could find no heat, and consequently, no fire. The homeowner was encouraged to contact an electrician before turning on the breaker.
A Madisonville Community College project is now complete. In the spring, agriculture students and staff planted spring flowers at Dr. Festus Claybon Park. The project was made possible because of an Engage Kentucky plus grant. This fall they planted mums and annuals. The plan is to add more flower beds and plants each semester.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in identifying a crime suspect. There was a trailer theft from a business near Sebree. On the Facebook page there are some photos that may help deputies in their investigation.
The New York Post is reporting that the federal government has a large number of documents about dangerous gain-of-function biological research. Senator Rand Paul says those files could be key to unlocking exactly how COVID-19 started, and how U-S funds may have been involved. Paul hopes to discover if there’s proof that public health officials were aware that controversial research practices were potentially dangerous.
It’s the time of year for the Kentucky State Police Cram the Cruiser food drive. The troopers in Nortonville are accepting non-perishable food donations through December 6th from 10 until 2.
