The fire alarm system at a local restaurant is being checked. The Madisonville Fire Department could not locate the fire at the Oasis Southwest Grill on Powell Drive during the noon hour the other day. The manager reported that the alarm system had been malfunctioning and that someone was supposed to be looking into it.
Did you know that a plant in Madisonville makes a part for one of the most popular aircraft propulsion systems in the world? The G-E Aerospace plant on Nebo Road manufactures the blades and veins for the three ton, high tech C-F-M LEAP engine that’s being displayed at colleges and G-E Aerospace plants. This tour is also being used to attract new talent to GE Aerospace sites.
New federal changes in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants and Children mean eligible moms and kids will receive more money for protein-rich foods, and fruits and vegetables. Although advocates have been doing work to reach more households, Karena Cash with Kentucky Youth Advocates says the W-I-C program is not reaching every available mom or mom-to-be in the state. Research shows the WIC program helps improve pregnancy outcomes, including lower incidences of premature births, infant mortality and low-birthweight babies.
One of the highlights of the Christmas season in Madisonville this year is free ice skating. Downtown Ice & Lights will be at 36 East Center Street during two weekends next month. Those days are December 6th through the 8th, and the 14th and 15th. Altogether, the rink will be open 31 hours.

A leaking propane tank is what occupied Madisonville fire officials during the noon hour a few days ago. After investigating, the fire crew determined that Lowe’s on Island Ford Road did not have the necessary equipment to release pressure from the main valve. So, the fire crew relocated the tank to a safer environment away from the building. Lowe’s employees were advised to monitor the tank and continue allowing it to vent since over-pressurization was deemed the possible cause of the incident.
In Webster County, the board of education would like to adopt a nickel tax to support the aging infrastructure of the district. There will be several information meetings to answer questions and dispel myths. The first meeting will be Thursday at Clay Elementary at 5:30. The 2nd meeting will be on Friday evening at 5:30 at Sebree Elementary.
Some people are pretty good about having an emergency food and water supply at home during stormy weather, and winter weather. Since so many people spend a lot of time in their vehicles, the vehicle also needs stocked for emergencies. Here’s Butler County Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers.

It’s reported that the FBI detonated a grenade that ripped the front door from its hinges in the middle of the night.
