Several counties in Western Kentucky are concerned about the slow mail service of absentee ballots. The counties are saying they deliver the ballots to the post office as soon as they receive the requests. Channel 44 is reporting that the delays are due to the United States Postal Service. Today is the last day you can request a mail-in ballot.
An estimated 55-thousand children are being raised by a relative in Kentucky. That’s way above the national average. The president of the Kinship Families Coalition of Kentucky says she has spent the past decade raising two grandkids. Norma Hatfield says most caregivers, especially grandparents, are not financially equipped to suddenly take on full-time caring for children. Senate Bill 151 allows kinship families to apply for certification as a foster home, and allows kids a say in where they live after they’ve been removed from their home.
The next stop for the Webster County High School Marching Band is the state competition. They will perform this week at the Christian Academy of Louisville – English Station Campus. The top 6 groups will then advance to the finals at the University of Louisville’s L&N Stadium. The Trojan Band placed 4th at the regional competition in Bowling Green on Saturday night.
Today is the second and final day of the free spay and neuter clinic for the Muhlenberg County Humane Society. Dogs can not be over 50 pounds.. The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion burglary in Earlington. The victim said two armed men forced their way into her home at 407 Robinson Street at about 3 o’clock Monday morning. She says they took some items and threatened her and her three children . The WCSO is hoping these lawbreakers and their vehicle were caught on home video between the hours of 2 and 3:30.
A sewer project that started five years ago is making progress but still has a way to go. Mayor Kevin Cotton says the West Noel Interceptor Project is adding a second sewer option on the west side of town. This is understood to be the most expensive sewer project in the history of the city.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says two Sebree residents are facing drug charges. On Friday afternoon, a search warrant was excuted at at residence on East Washington Street. Recovered were marijuana plants, marijuana wax, T-H-C edibles, oxycodone, and drug paraphernalia. Arrested were Katrina Higgins and Brandon Higgins. The W-C-S-O says this investigation is not over. They say if you have information about criminal activity, you can make an anonymous tip.
