The vacant Walmart store on Anton Road continues to be the site of illegal activity. The police say the power has to remain on for the safety and fire alarms. They have attempted to get in touch with Walmart. Recently, two men broke into the building to discover that the power is still on. The store has been vacant for the last 8 years.
In Washington, a Kentucky congressman is exposing how the three largest Pharmacy Benefit Managers are monopolizing the pharmaceutical marketplace. James Comer says they have been deploying anti-competitive pricing tactics that are raising prescription drug prices, undermining community pharmacies, and harming patients all across the country. Comer says Kentuckians and Americans across the nation deserve access to affordable, life-saving drugs.
The 2nd annual Wings over Western Kentucky airshow is Saturday in Anton. This year’s show will feature both the Bell UH-1 Huey utility and Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters, in addition to a number of airplanes. There’s no charge and parking is free, but arrive early because a big crowd is expected. Gates open at 10 and the show begins at 1.
Our state has twice as many relatives raising their grandchildren as the national average. Shannon Moody of the Kinship Families Coalition says more than 80-percent of the kinship families say they need help with groceries and another basic supplies.
The Madisonville Police Department is celebrating the birthday of K-9 Bane. All agree that Bane and his handler Officer Tyler Russell form an incredible partnership.

This is the morning that a lot of folks have coffee with a cop. In Madisonville, it’s at Simply Poured at 190 Madison Square Drive from 9 until 10:30. Coffee With a Cop has been found to be a way to build trust and foster a sense of camaraderie between members of law enforcement and the public.
The Madisonville man who took money for a roof and fence repair job that he didn’t do is now in jail. The victim was told over and over by 40-year-old Randall Brown that he had never received the check, but the police say the bank statement indicated that Brown had received the 18-thousand dollar check and that several transactions had been made.
You would expect Mahr Park Arboretum to have an impressive sign. And, people are saying that’s exactly what it is. The sign is on Nebo Road.
A partnership between the Kentucky Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management is supplying a safety tool to those who have hearing issues.
The Virginia Moore Safe Nights program will provide a free NOAA weather radio with a flashing strobe light and pillow-shaker to those who are eligible. The late Virginia Moore was a tireless advocate for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. For details, search: Virginia Moore Legacy Project.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is welcoming three new deputies. Josh Gunn retired a few months ago, but now is back. Skylerr Armstrong and Austin Kurtz will begin training and attend the police academy before being assigned to patrol.
