A report of a person on a roof is what drew the police to a business at 39 South Main Street in Madisonville on yesterday (Thursday) morning around 1 AM. That’s the site of Maggie’s Cakes and More. The police noted that the backdoor was open. Arrested was Alejandro Suggs. Suggs is charged with burglary, and fleeing from the police. Also charged with being in the bakery was Esperanza Suggs. She is charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
A littering complaint is what drew the police to a residence on Adams Avenue Tuesday morning. In contacting Rosamay Johnson, the officer reported that she was intoxicated. In being detained, she resisted arrest and began to fight the officer. After the confrontation, the officer reported that he was injured and his uniform was damaged. Johnson faces 6 charges, including assault and criminal mischief.

Today is the final day for the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Central City. It’s at 61 Career Way. Help is still available online or by phone. Homeowners, renters, businesses, a nd nonprofit organizations can apply for long-term, low-interest disaster loans from the Small Business Administration to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance and other sources. The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is Monday, the 23rd.

The governor says the new police training facility in Madisonville will open in February. Many around the Commonwealth are glad for this announcement because the training will be closer, saving them time and money. Mayor Cotton says he is thrilled to welcome the the Department of Criminal Justice Training.
Hopkins County is seeking volunteers to review cases of children in foster care and make recommendations regarding their safe keeping. Citizen Foster Care Review Boards conduct interactive reviews on the children and make recommendations to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and to state courts. The governor is making it clear that the practice of conversion therapy is being banned in our state. The governor says his executive order is a necessary step to protect children from a widely discredited practice that tries to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity through counseling.
Hopkins County will have a Narcan giveaway on Thursday, the 26th. Cans will be distributed from 9 until 3 at the Ballard Convention Center on Arch Street.
The newest School Resource Officer in Webster County is John Shofner. The Providence police say Shofner came to the department as a DARE instructor. That stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education instructor.
